Re: I flipping hate football.

I've got Tynecastle Stadium (home of Heart of Midlothian FC) 2 mins one way, and Murrayfield Stadium (home of Scottish rugby) 2 mins the other... If they've both got games on on the same day, it's a bleedin' nightmare. Ooh, I lived in that same area a few years back, I feel your pain! (note to self...

Re: I flipping hate football.

I don't mind watching a little bit of most sports (except golf and darts, don't 'get' them at all) but I am unfortunate enough to live two minutes away from a football stadium and now the season has started again have to put up with the mass of people parking in the street/ on the pavement/ on the g...

Re: Radish ponderings

You don't need to wait, though, mollypea - any radish will produce seed pods. Tom's talking about a strain bred specifically for the pods. You can do it without that - but be prepared for a very large and scruffy plant. Mike Ah yes I'm discovering this - there's a radish monster trying to take over...

Re: Purslane (Portulaca oleracea)

Great pictures. I'm growing golden purslane and have got some winter purslane just sprouting. Didn't realise it was so good for you! The slugs seem to be very fond of it too though, unfortunately.

Re: Radish ponderings

I discovered the joy of eating radish seed pods this year - got lots of nice round roots early in the summer but then a load bolted when it got hotter. Read somewhere that you could eat the pods and they are really tasty - mild radishy flavour. Had so many that I tried pickling a jar-full, which ar...

Re: What to do with cabbage

My favourite cabbage recipe is http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/othe ... -with-sage - not vegetarian but it might work with veg stock and without the bacon and anchovies. The cheese and bread go all gorgeous and squishy and melty :)

Another one here who doesn't know much about flowers - I do know that lemon balm makes a nice herbal tea though (on its own or with mint etc) :)

Re: What are you havesting

Currently harvesting - lots and lots of salad (various mixes, landcress, pea tops, rocket, sorrel), chard which has been going since about this time last year (died off a bit under 6 inches of snow in winter then came back to life), radishes (and the pods off the ones that bolted, yum), turnips, loa...

Re: soup recipes

Hi Biobod, I'm new too although have been reading on and off for a while :) I've been looking for new ways to preserve my veg too, as only have a small freezer, and am currently experimenting with fermentation such as Gundru (e.g. http://www.cookingforcommunity.com/recipes/gundru - I have the 'Wild ...
