Re: What to do with privet trimmings ?

I leave my privet trimmings in the black plastic sacks that I gather them into and they soon turn into lovely compost (they shrink down very quickly), the twiggy parts are soon removed at the finish.

Re: Water permeable base for bins behind shed?

Thanks!
I was trying to join my local Freecycle last night but had problems with those weird security codes: I will try again tonight.

Re: Water permeable base for bins behind shed?

Water diverted from shed, rots the adjacent fence . No guttering on shed because wood on edges of roof are rotten (although I did a good job of new roofing felt and put heavy polythene underneath: Needs re-doing and will need batons underneath roof to fix roofing too: Hoped to do this as my last big...

Re: veg to plant now

A tub of potatoes for new potatoes on Christmas day! You have to keep them protectec from frost if you can. I have just found a few sprouting potatoes and have put them to chit on the window sill. Have found a planter and will put in the porch I think. I am hoping that my suggestion works for me too...

Re: "Mulching" Ivy?

If you put the Ivy into black sacks and tie them up, the leaves quickly fall off and can be easily separated from the stems: The leaves can then be shredded or left to part decay and then put into compost bin or wormery (food and bedding): The stems shredded and discarded or I have composted small a...

Re: old tyre recycle ideas anyone

Done some research but delivery of mulch, chip, etc is expensive. You tube etc show how to make your own but you need a commercial shredder. *I have decided to make a bit by hand by using cycle tyres and a Stanley knife(will try local cycle shop and neighbour who moves rubbish and looking in ditches...

Water permeable base for bins behind shed?

Having cleared the back and one side if my 6' X 6' (too small) garden shed, I now need to put down some sort of water permeable base before returning two dustbins of compost etc and a huge (rescued & mended) wheelie bin, that will store my newest compost, before my garden improvement/make easier...

Re: Christmas Cards

I try to make as many as I can, now. I use the best parts off old cards but admit to a rather crazy, craft buying binge last year or year before, when I started. I did buy mostly second hand stuff though. *If anyone lives near to Walsall, I would love to have some of your old Christmas or greetings ...

Re: recycled ambulance

Russ, what a brilliant idea to use the stove for smoking your fish.

Last year, I watched as a family near my bus stop did up a VW hippy van. It looks lovely now, but I was hoping for wild looking flowers to be painted on it. I am a would be hippy, as my teen years were in the '60s.

Re: DEAD SLUGS

I would love a pond, Sue, but arthritis makes it hard to clean out! Maybe I could have a raised one? I have my Petit Pond for the birds (just a big recycled pate dish). Zoe, I love your homing snails story, LOL. greenorelse, I would love a duck or two (are they happy if only one?) but friend said ne...

Welcome!
Bees do sound brilliant: Solar water, evacuated tubes are very efficient my friend has two lots and I do recommend them.
