Re: trespassing to forage

I always forage out of hedgerows and on public footpaths, i usually find if you want something out of someone's garden i just knock on the door and ask. I've done that plenty of times and always had positive results, even bringing a jar or bottle of whatever i've made, back as a thank you usually se...

Re: I went out faraging, apparently I am not normal

I often get some funny looks when i go horse poo hunting with my bucket and wellies, but I've got some very happy and lovely scented roses in my garden :)

Re: homemade wind turbines

I've made one, I used a dynamo off a push-bike. Many people will suggest using a alternator but it won't work efficiently because it has to spin too fast, while a push-bike dynamo doesn't need as much wind speed to make it charge 12v. Dynamo's only produce 4.8v at 300 hundred revs a minute, you go f...

Re: Quarter acre plot

Thanks for that The Riff-Raff Element, it's starting to look like I'd be better off sticking to chicken, ducks and geese, which i'm fine with but any idea how many could i roughly fit in my field without it getting to crowded?

Re: Hello All

Hello and Welcome. I hope you get as much support, encouragement and advice as I have over the years. How much ground do you have? and what are your current thought on choice of livestock? Do you have experience of any? Not that I can help I'm just interested. But I do know people who went down the...

Re: Quarter acre plot

You need to get a book or two really. Try John Seymour, or Katie Thear & Dr Alistair Fraser. No 9 birds would not keep the grass down. With all stocking it depends on the soil type, weather, weeds, average temps, slope, orientation etc etc etc. What you have asked is really not a simple question, a...

Re: Quarter acre plot

Was thinking of getting 3 chickens, 3 ducks and 3 geese, would that be enough t...

Hello All, I'm new to the forum thought i'd say hello, i'm living in rural Shropshire trying to be as self sufficient as possible, seem to have cracked the veg growing but hoping to expand into livestock.
