Sugar beets were actually Europe's source of sugar before the sugar cane. I wonder if Europe is trying to return to that? And will Potatoes and corn over there soon get replaced by carrots and wheat again?

As tense as the situation is, I would not worry about the nuclear scenario too much. Atom bombs are used as a means to scare your enemies off, and that generally works better if people think you are really nuts enough to employ it. But most aren't.
