Re: Rubbish 'carer'.

Merry, the comments you made sound fair to me, even if you did say them in anger. Just because he's in a wheelchair doesn't mean your partner is beyond reproach if he is behaving badly, and using you as an excuse for not following Dr's orders isn't fair. I hope the two of you have been able to clear...

Re: washing line

This may be over-simplistic, but have you checked that the pulley doesn't need oil/WD40 - to make it easier to adjust? Alternatively, my grandmothers used to have a clothes prop, (basically a hook on a stick) to prop up the middle of the line so the washing didn't hang on the floor.

Re: Les grenouilles

A question for the amphibian fans. I've just been outside trying to rescue a veggie bed from weeds. As I dug I woke up a very unhappy toad (I think, although it could have been a frog). In the Autumn the same thing happened in a different bed, that time it was two! I am very happy to have them on my...

Re: Cooking in a wood-burning stove

Ooh, I want to do this, how long did they take? Same as in an oven or longer? - And was the burner already hot or did you put them in as you lit it? I guess it all comes down to how hot the burner is... Hmm, I think I'm going to have to try this at the weekend - why have I never thought of this! :ic...

Re: So I have my treadle!

There are some excellent tutorials for home-made tailors dummies on the web, if you have plenty of time and a willing assistant, fluffy. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it involves a cheap t-shirt and lots of duct tape, and doesn't look too hard. http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_7174469_make-duct-tape-d...

Something that can hoover up my sleepiness when I need to get up for work, and inject it back into my head when I'm staring at the ceiling with insomnia in the middle of the night!

Re: ...find out about beehives

Sda, if you google 'beekeeping association' with the name of your region or county you should get a contact name or number. You'd need to be happy with someone trooping through your garden at least once a week, and the risk of the bees swarming, but I'm sure a responsible beekeeper could explain all...

Re: Hello from Herefordshire

Hi everyone, and thanks for the welcomes. Yes, darkbrowneggs, we are almost-neighbours, I'm living just outside Kington. I would love to keep some poultry, and even a couple of pigs, but sadly we both have to work full time for a few more years, so it's not an option right now. I'm plotting to retir...

Hello from Herefordshire

Hi, I'm MarcherLady. I live in the beautiful Welsh Marches in Herefordshire. I've recently moved here with my husband in search of a better quality of life than we had in crowded Sussex. So far we've planted fruit trees and soft fruit bushes and I'm now planning my vegetable garden. I'm also very ex...

Re: Accomodation near East Grinstead Hospital?

Hi batty bird, sorry to hear your husband needs surgery. Have you looked at Youth Hostels? There is one at Uckfield, called 'Blackboys' which would be cheaper than any of the prices you quoted, even if you had to buy membership, just take a sleeping bag... I've only just joined this site, so I'm not...
