Re: Hello from Arfon
Welcome Cyffylog. I met my husband while in a (self-sufficient) commune in Wales, but nowadays we live in Somerset. Still grow our own though. I hope you will enjoy the site as much as I do!

Re: When can you get mutton?
Just had my (frozen) mutton which I got in January. It was delicious. Here is the recipe: STIR-FRIED MUTTON with ONIONS If you make this the day before, the meat will be lovely and tender from having sat in the tomato sauce overnight! 400g mutton (or lamb), 1-2 onions, 2 tblsp flour, 1 tsp paprika, ...

Re: Greetings
We get our black radish and most other seeds from Garden Organic (http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk). The two stamppots I mentioned go as follows roughly: DUTCH ENDIVE POTATO MASH [Andijviestamppot] servings: 4-5 1kg potatoes, ab. 250gr endive if that, large onion, 150gr bacon in cubes, vinegar, milk,...

Re: Greetings
I'm a Groninger. And I haven't been back much because I only travel when I really have to. Apart from gardening, I spend my time writing the 'Food for Thought' blog to encourage people to eat (and grow) seasonal and local foods with health advise. So I'm a homebody really. There is another veg which...

By the way I was attracted to trying mutton by this article in the Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle ... odanddrink.

Re: Greetings
Hi Robert, welcome here. I am Dutch too, and moved to Britain around 1981, so it's nice to meet a compatriot. Haven't been back for quite a few years! My (English) husband and I have always grown our own veg, for a short while we even had an organic gardening business but that fell by the wayside fo...

Re: When can you get mutton?
In December my husband asked the local butcher for mutton, and they promised they'd get him some after xmas. And they did! I forgot that. And 5 weeks ago we bought some lovely frozen mutton sausages from another butcher around here. So it is possible. Mind you where we live we are surrounded by sheep!

When can you get mutton?
I love mutton, and wonder what time of year it is more easily available in the butcher's shops? It's normally hard to find. I've got some nice recipes and want to put them on my seasonal food blog, and I wonder what month best to put them in.
Thanks!
Thanks!

savory - summer or winter?
I've had a savory plant growing in my garden for years. These days I find little offspring everywhere, and like to offer them on Freecycle, along with strawberry plants, marjoram, parsley, limnanthes etc. etc. How can I find out whether my savory is a summer or a winter one? Admittedly it has stood ...

Don't waste heads and feet!
At the moment, in our case, this means pheasants' heads and feet. But the same holds for all birds and poultry. When you prepare a bird from scratch (if you have to buy it, unfortunately it doesn't come with that stuff) don't throw out the best parts. Use them to make stock along with other bits and...

Hungry Gap Mash
This year being what is is, we're still in the Hungry Gap though the spinach is coming on. We haven't even got enough radish greens to make my famous radish green mash! And I refuse to buy veg. So I let my husband eat our tiny spring cabbages, while making myself some lovely Hungry Gap Mash as follo...
