Re: Autumnwatch unsprung 14th October 2010

Aha - thought it was you! It's been a while since I logged on here. Your fare looked delicious and I thought you did really well under a lot of pressure. Live tv - scary!

Re: Talk to me about terries please

Before giving up (for now) on reusables, I found that the Chinese fold seemed best for my son, who is a particularly heavy wetter.

Re: Child Trust Fund

Has anyone here signed up to http://www.kidstart.co.uk/ ? It is a scheme where you can earn points/money for you child (either the CTF or a bank/building society account) when you shop online with various well-known retailers (Boots, Argos, Field and Trek to name a few). I can't see any drawbacks, b...

Re: Any diplomats on here?

Bizarre lady - not liking ceanothus. I'd be utterly furious in the same situation. Rosendula, perhaps you could speak with your neighbour before the elder starts to flower to try to make sure she doesn't do it again. You could always threaten her with legal action; assuming that they are on your lan...

Re: Child Trust Fund

a 'proper' savings account, not some crazy government scheme. A crazy government scheme seems a bit harsh. The savings account option for the CTF is the safest; no money lost, just interest gained. The only problem with that is that interest rates are pitiful at the moment. But you won't lose money...

And turnips and carrots and lettuce and squash,
Which all taste so great and save us much dosh,

Re: Any diplomats on here?

As Thomzo says, there are different types, and some are hardier than others. You said it flowers in late spring, is cloudy blue and has a fairly thick stem (rather than a ground-covering type). If it is quite slow growing, then you might just be lucky. It sounds like one we have in France; this acci...

Re: Ok it's a while since i was asked to put this on...

We have a considerable amount of wet and cold weather. I don't understand why people think you need great weather to hang your washing out :? especially terries which, in mid November with snow on the ground, still dried in 2 hours of brisk but freezing wind. As long as it isn't raining my washing ...

Re: Ok it's a while since i was asked to put this on...

It's been a while since I posted on Ish; I've now got a 6 month old boy, so thought I'd check out the eco-parenting section. I, like many others it seems, started out with the best intentions. I bought some terry nappies, some Bambino Mio prefolds & wrappers, and got some Freecycled Cotton Botto...

Re: Brave Bunny

Having had pet rabbits, I can say that they're certainly not all wusses! One of mine, Sage, got very fed up with a neighbour's cat who kept trying to 'play' with her when she was in the garden. One day, she really kicked the cat (a lot bigger than her) and I saw it get thrown backwards a couple of f...

I can't advise you about plants for your pond, but will mention that it is a good idea to put a ladder or stout twig/branch into the pond in case a hedgehog accidentally falls in. They are great slug-eaters and many unfortunately die in ponds with liners as they have difficulty climbing out of them.
