Re: Anyone growing Satsumas?

I wonder if you could use the satsuma trees from seed as a rootstock and graft other citrus onto it, you could look for scions from other people that way for thornless fruit maybe

Re: alcoholic fruit flies

that is a great tip, they were born in cider vinegar and the other day, in the absence of hard liquor, they took to sitting on my vinegar jug, I may have to make this to get rid of the little drunken feckers once and for all, a great deal of them drowned in some rather nice new world Merlot, the dre...

Re: Peanuts

I grew a tiger nut by accident, it must have come out of the bird feeder and I told the Wizard not to mow near it, but he forgot and chopped its head off, maybe it will come back. I love tiger nuts

alcoholic fruit flies

I seem to have created a colony of alcohol fuelled fruit flies in my house. A few weeks ago, I put some apple pulp in a basin with a plate on top which I intended putting in my lidded bucket to make cider vinegar. Being me, I put the bowl on top of the washing machine and forgot all about it, that i...

Re: Roses from cuttings

hmmm thanks Weedo, well all the cutting I have taken have been taken from the top of the bushes and are what I know are not from the rootstock, so they should be true to what I took, we have lots of wild roses here a county famous for its wild roses, so might just pop outside and try a cheeky graft....

Roses from cuttings

I have grown some roses from cuttings. I thought I had taken a cutting of a yellow climbing rose, but it seems to be a little pink rose, another one is thornless and pink and I was sure it was off a white thornless rose. I have not been able to find much about this on the web, some people saying it ...

Re: Peanuts

will you be dishing them out to the trick or treaters? That is very impressive, the ground nut scheme didn't ever take off, why was that? I will be giving this a go next year

Re: Ophelia

Ophelia has now moved up the west coast of Ireland and is currently in Donegal and parts of Northern Ireland, the winds seem to be gusting now from the North West, which is the Atlantic which is right, it started out this morning blowing from the East and South and changed round about 3pm

Re: Ophelia

The storm has hit Cork quite badly, they got it first this morning, it has been moving up the west coast and we are feeling the gusts, at the moment, this is no worse than we have had in the past, but the storm is still centred round Galway as far as I can make out. The whole of Ireland is closed, t...

Re: Productive apple tree

I wish I had done all my fruit trees as step overs or something now, the rooks come down and peck every ripe apple, usually just once, a big beak into each lovely apple. Looks a lovely productive little tree
