Re: newbie poster from dumfries and galloway

Hi Glyn, welcome to the forum I haven't been on here for a while and just seen your post. Nice to know there are a few other 'ishers' in D+G, good luck with your endeavours.

Re: Shredded paper

I had been drying out my 'bricks' in the greenhouse when the weather was warmer but as of a month or so ago it is a waste of time, they just don't dry at all. I haven't used any bleach but the reduced soaking time for shredded paper helps to stop it going off, but they do get a bit smelly if they ta...

Re: Where do all the alternative people hang out?

Thanks ina you would be welcome anytime if you do wander this way. It doesn't help that I am basically antisocial anyway ;-). The few neighbours I do have probably just see me as the weird bloke with the untidy garden increasingly covered in fruit, veg and pallets! With rescued chickens wandering ar...

Shredded paper

Just wanted to share my increasing list of uses for shredded paper. I was making paper bricks for burning in the wood stove and finding it a pain to tear up the paper and cardboard before soaking and then taking ages to break down. My partner mentioned there was a lot of paper shredded in her office...

Re: Where do all the alternative people hang out?

I've wondered about this and thought it might be nice to know some like minded people locally but not known how to find them. Then I realised if they are living a selfsufficient(ish) lifestyle they probably won't have much money to spend elsewhere, tend to live in a more remote location and maybe qu...

Re: Rename this bit of the forum?

Did you mean re-purpose? Don't think it is a real word yet but getting used a lot, probably a U.S. import.

Re: What seeds are you saving this year ?

I didn't think I had saved any seeds last year until I realized there are tomato plants growing among the courgettes and squashes! They must have sneaked in via the compost heap :-)

Well done Russ, both with the shed and persevering with putting the picture on your post, I often struggle with them and give up! What percentage of the shed is recycled?

Re: Have anybody else's courgette being growing wierdly

Hi, I have had some problems with slugs(see other post) and where the slugs have nibbled the end of some young fruits they no longer grow lengthwise but start to balloon outwards. This has only happened to the first ones nearest the ground, and they are all green not yellow. Maybe some mistake has b...

Well said, at the risk of upsetting a few people I think a referendum on keeping the monarchy would be interesting!
