Re: I hate bindweed.

I always suspected Alpaca's can fly! Not a bad idea to replace the soil, if I could afford to swap the whole lot for some containing nutrients I would, lol. Could make it a lawn, but we just dug up all of the lawn for the purpose of growing food stuffs, Tom Good stylee, lol. Hey ho, will keep on a-d...

Re: I hate bindweed.

Alpaca bag, and we'll run away together. If only the garden were bigger, menagerie!

What area is it growing?

It's only on areas where there is earth, so I guess it could be worse.

Re: Old VHSs

Reviving this one because my OH recently said something about VHS tapes being un-everythingable, and as much as I wracked my inventive little brain cells (all two of 'em), I couldn't get much beyond knitting bags etc with the tape, which would of course deteriorate fairly soon after, therefore point...

Re: Using washing machine parts for a DIY mini wind turbine

@solarwind - Thanks for the link, looks like a lot of info there, will see if I can get my head around it. :) @oldjerry - Haha, the only two things I've found to do with the door is a) salad bowl and b) (@contadina) a round window. Lol. @doofaloofa - Bless ya! (liking your avatar btw - the mozzies I...

Using washing machine parts for a DIY mini wind turbine

Our washing machine ceased to do the one thing expected of it. Wash. However the parts are all intact, so I'm thinking about stripping it down to do something useful with the motor, water pump etc. (The drum is already bagsied as an incinerator or planter.) Has anyone come across any so-simple-an-8-...

Pallets and plastic bottle greenhouse

Last year I constructed a greenhouse using an old swing frame and plastic bottles threaded with twine. It worked really well, with temperatures very noticeably higher inside. I thought the only disadvantage was the triangular shape which meant having to duck (I'm not particularly tall either), but u...

TWO Petitions - Save Seed Diversity!

I hope I am posting this in the right place. Two petitions concerning saving seed diversity. First is here: https://www.openpetition.de/petition/online/seed-diversity-under-threat-no-european-seed-regulations-for-the-benefit-of-the-seed-industry#googtrans%28de|en%29 And the second, translated (rough...

Re: Seed patents 'are a fraud'

I understand the seeds MonSatan offers farmers are altered so they will not produce further seed, therefore creating dependence - farmers will have no choice but to return to the big corporations for more seed. Such a monopoly over food supply is a very worrying prospect.

'Surviving The Cuts, And Other Disasters' by Korban Blake

I started to read this book, Surviving The Cuts, And Other Disasters, because I wanted to learn new ways of saving money in these tough economic times. I would say I'm fairly savvy on the money-saving front, but always on the look out for new ideas. Though this book, by the title, sounds a bit like ...

Hello from Norfolk!

Hi everyone, I used to be here many yonks ago, and then I wasn't, but now I'm back. Totally lost all traces of my old login info, so I'm afraid there is a dead account here somewhere. I'm getting back into the green stuff, here in sunny Norfolk, building a greenhouse from pallets and plastic bottles...
