Re: starting our own ish life
Some really good food for thought here. There is currently a mobile home next to the cottage.. which gave us the idea to begin with. Im living in a council flat. And I suppose apart from that there's nothing to lose. But we're going into this broke. Not expecting to make money, just gain some sereni...

Re: Redcurrant
Have been growing redcurrant five years now. It gives very little in the first 2 years and then it starts to fruit quite heavily. This year ive had so many I dont know what to do with it all! I give mine a light pruning but mostly leave it alone as the fruit only grows on old wood. So perhaps this i...

Finally started my brewing thanks to great advice on here. Hurray! Got two large demijohns of elderflower on. And one empty demijohn waiting to go. Not sure what to try next. Do like the idea of wurzel..

Gah, Fleas!
I regularly wash my Dog in tea-tree & sea salt concoction. He wears a flea collar (which is two months old, and taken off before washing)... Yet he's now scratching like a mad thing. I checked, and yup...Fleas! :angryfire: I need frugal and safe ways of riding my pet and home. I really hate the ...

Re: Homemade Laundry detergents
happy hippy, I would love to give this a go! Do you ever have problems with it not washing through? Do you put the detergent in the drawer or machine? I used a recipie once that called for putting it in the drum and came out with residue still left

Homemade Laundry detergents
I thought maybe we could share recipes.
The one I make is:
two cups grated soap
Two cups washing soda
One cup Borax
My secret is using a pestle and mortar to get a fine sand texture.
Also, a teaspoon of vinegar once the wash starts :)

Re: Need some advice
:hugish: Thank you!! Both posts have spelled it all out clearly. I figured there was going to be a hype behind it when I saw all these wine kits with ingredients ready to go. And then I had read a book making it sound like chemistry also. I was desperate to start last year but just stuck to cordials...

Need some advice
I want to start making my own wine but with as low cost as I can. What are the essential items, and any innovative money saving ideas? I've been looking online at wine starter kits. Seem like a reasonable price but I'm not sure. Also.... Are the demijons suitable for storing the wine, or should I st...
