Is there a Self Sufficientish badge that we can all put on our blogs to advertise the forum? I've noticed a lot of blogs seem to have them on.

Re: THE FUTURE OF ISH

Hello,

I'm still too new to know who everyone is, but thanks for taking on the site and keeping it going. I'm learning a lot just from reading the old threads.

Re: Chamomile

I have German chamomile in my herb patch, it seeds around everywhere. You can use the flowers for making tea.

Re: Caramelised onion chutney with dates recipe needed pleas

I made some a couple of years ago, and followed this recipe very roughly. I didn't bother with the chillis or bay leaf, I put a spoonful of mustard seeds in instead. As long as you get the ratio of sugar and vinegar right-ish then you can experiment with what actually goes in. Even just onions with ...

I always click on new posts. It does seem pretty quiet here. I'm fairly new so I don't know how busy it used to be.

Hmm, I reckon those screw into the ground dog tethers could hold a small child. Put some reins on the child, attach them to the tether, job done

Re: snaileries

Would that kill off the lungworm? We looked after a dog once that just ate them straight out of the garden. Too bad we couldn't keep her, she was the best slug control ever.

I think most things are edible if you add enough garlic. Is this any help? Bob's basics.

Re: Hedgehogs?

Have you got a little pond or any water close by? Even a washing up tub will help attract wildlife. You could build a hedgehog box too, although I think they are mainly for hibernation.

I've heard ducks are really good for keeping down slugs and snails, would that be a possibility?

Hi Frankie :)

I must admit I have no knowledge of making booze. I don't really drink so I leave all the boozemaking to my husband. I'm intrigued by cheesemaking though. You know what they say, 'blessed are the cheesemakers'. Wild garlic pesto sounds lovely too.

Enjoy the forum :)

Re: Dogs on allotment sites!!!

Dogs have to be under control now under the new law. Biting someone or getting in a fight would mean they are NOT under control. it's a shame you've had all that trouble at your allotments. :( Not having a water supply is a bit of a joke. My mum used to have an urban allotment and went to visit afte...

Re: Dogs on allotment sites!!!

Dogs are allowed at our local allotments and at my mum's local one and it's not really been a problem. There are always a few rubbish dog owners (and rubbish people in general) that ruin it for the responsible majority. Everyone I've seen at our local allotment tethers their dog and they just sit qu...
