Sweet pepper failure
My sweet peppers have been a disaster. I grew them in pots and they did very well, had lots of flowers, which set and I looked all set for a bumper harvest. But as they started to turn red they started to rot.The leaves were fine and the plants looked very healthy, apart from the slimy fruit. I coul...

Re: elderflower cordial
Thanks for your replies. this was a river cottage recipe, but someone suggested it was too sweet and to useonly 500 grams of sugar to the litre of water. I filled the bottles with boiling water and let them sit.I obviously need to be better prepared next time .off to buy Camden and other tablets :-)

elderflower cordial
Aaargh!I have made 2 litres of elderflower cordial, and its started to ferment! (Though I've still drunk 1 litre). I'm a bit concerned about the second bottle...any ideas why it happened and what I can do to rescue it?

Re: make my own grow bags
Thank you.It would make far more sense to use the bags on their end as you suggested, and would mean I could fit them in in various spaces around the borders. Can't think why it didn't occur to me before....sometimes its just hard to think outside the box lol

make my own grow bags
I need some more grow bags.I have some thick large plastic sacks, courtesy of the dog food, and some reasonable compost in the bins. Any ideas on how I can reseal the end of the sack securely, and should I add anything to the compost? Thanks

I have very limited veg space, a 6 by 3 raised beds, and various other Containers and fruit treed, so space is at a premium,. I cover the bed with a crop cage to keep the dogs off it.I recently sowed my spinach and carrots in neat and tidy rows. Then I forgot to put the cage back and one of the dogs ...

Re: snaileries
That's my problem too, I don't have many slugs, but the garden is overrun with snails. I just thought I'd make the little beggars earn their keep! Although as apparently all snails found in the UK are edible, I'm tempted to grow them and feed them to the dogs....suitably boiled of course!

Years ago I remember bob flowerdew talking about snaileries instead of wormeries.Has anyone tried it ? Did it work OK? Can anyone remember how to make them?
Has anyone used the plastic beehive wormeries?Any thoughts on their effectiveness? Thank you!

Hello from Elaine
Because just to confuse you, Maisie and Grace are the dogs and I'm Elaine. I'm interested in being more self sufficient, without moving to the middle of nowhere, and am currently slowly converting the back lawn into raised beds. I'm in Sussex.Looking forward to learning lots:-)
