Re: Growing soya beans
I left mine to dry. Wanted daizu instead of fresh beans. Spent hours shelling them, most were bad and infested with caterpillars.
Probably not going to bother again.
I read somewhere, Japan produces only 5% of it soy bean requirement; fundamental in so many dishes.

Re: Potatoes for Christmas dinner.
I harvested some on New Years Day after pushing the snow aside. This year I planted some unchitted spuds much earlier; nothing has come up. Still keen to have another go but not going to bother without chitted seeds.

Re: storing potatoes
I got told about polystyrene boxes. These are common here, usually get used for fish. I'm worried about the humidity.

If it's top tea then it has to be Sainsbury's Red label. It's a good idea, why not a little chit in the packaging/brewing instructions. That would include the supermarkets too.

I grew a mini variety having been warned the vines run rampant. Hopefully next year will get better than a mini harvest.

Re: Soya Beans
Hi Adekun Where did you buy these from ?? Thanks Bluebell If people get really desperate I might look at sending some. Things in the EU are more lax than NZ, but not sure. These are a standard item in the local shops and work out about £1.20 a pack. I've just resown some as only a couple came up. ...

Cucumber tendrils
The first lot of cucumber plants I transplanted have had a rough time. Things are a bit better now and they are slowing turning from yellow to green. Recently I bought a couple of a different variety as a backup. The first lot are still without tendrils. Perhaps I'm being impatient, but something se...

Thanks you two. This afternoon, in the rain, they got yanked out. The roots are in the compost bin and the tops scattered about. I only spotted two that had forked. I suppose I should be thankful that they had no damage, mould or splits etc. Worth another go, I guess you will MMM. Out of interest, w...
