Re: App for foraging
Some are free but they tend to be inferior to the paid for. The fungi ones tend to be a bit on the "I don't want to be sued so I will play safe and say don't eat it". When in fact it looks vaguely like a poisonous one. Note when I say poisonous I mean similar to a stomach ache. It goes:- E...

Re: Paper Log Makers - The Best One?
Had one given. Rubbish.
Huge amount of work.
Does not burn very hot (mix with wood?)
Poor burn.
Vast amounts of very light ash. Got covered in ash once from a gust of wind when I was taking it to the bin.
Don't bother just junk.

App for foraging
I am not to happy with the apps I have. The main ones I have are for Fungi. Does anyone else use one? and what's your opinion on it? Next I want one for edible wild plants, again has anyone got one and your opinion on it. Trees would also be useful. Now the the main thing I have problems with is rec...

Re: Storing - drying vegetables
I think so, maybe depending on what it is. My neighbour has a homemade rack made of stacking mesh shelves. She mainly uses it for quick-drying herbs but I've seen things like courgette slices on it. She keeps it in her conservatory which gets full sun (on days we get any) from February to November-...

Re: How we are terracing a hill
There was obviously a lot of value in the stone. Somebody else would have demolished the buildings taken away the stone and paid him. Either way I will be start terracing my back garden this year. All by hand as no way a digger would remain upright on it. Nor is there any obvious way in other than t...

Re: Collecting Wood for woodburner
I forgot to mention I have about 2 years worth of firewood. All of which was going to landfill. Nearly all geenheart apart from some treated softwood which I can't bring myself to burn.

Re: Hello from the Lincolnshire Wolds
I grow veg in a small front garden. Only tomatoes and herbs. Salad leaf, toms and sweet peppers in conservatory. I dehydrate loads of tomatoes and put them in olive oil with herbs. Give them out as presents. Normally leave them for a year before using or giving away. My aim with the garden is to hav...

Re: Collecting Wood for woodburner
Part of my foraging involves the collection of what can be described as kindling. You can only have so much kindling before it becomes firewood albeit only an hours worth. If you are walking along a footpath or a road it will be classed as foraging. There is no actual law on foraging just a court ru...

Re: Storing - drying vegetables
I use a rather over rated Excalibur dehydrator for tomatoes and occasionally mushrooms. But am quite interested in solar options ie not paying the electric companies. Are they really practical in the UK?

Hello from the Lincolnshire Wolds
Retired a while back. Moved here 9 years ago. Main aim is to keep my cost down so I can spend my money on important things.....beer and bicycles, I like quality in both. Had a few illnesses and injuries since moving resulting in some mental problems , generally referred to as bone idleness. Things h...
