Re: Does anyone NOT have a television?

When my husband left 4.5 yrs ago he took the TV with him and I never replaced it. Don't miss it either. We used to have it on all the time, even as background noise, so at 1st it was strange, but the kids (5 & 11) aren't bothered, for one its all hes ever know here anyway. Kids have a couple of ...

Re: Laundry detergents

I bought an Eco Ball a few months back and haven't used detergent since. I've got a 5 yr old and an 11yr old, and only wash at 3o degrees, so its being put to the test. So far I'm pretty happy, everything comes out clean, and the machine gets the odd boil wash to keep it clean inside.

Has anybody since found any good apps for the UK?
I'm going to start a notebook, but think and app might help with initial ID's

Scrumping From Neighbours

I have a neighbor at the end of our road with a gorgeous Apple tree. Its only 5 ft tall but so heavily laden, or at least it was till the storm hit this weekend :( We've been eyeing it up for weeks and the owner hasn't picked any of them. We've tried getting to know him in passing, as you do. A smil...

I lived in Tameside for 20+ years. There’s a lot of good foraging out towards Derbyshire.
I’m now in the North Highlands of Scotland.
Thanks for the tip, I'm in pretty much on the Derbyshire boarder so will have to get walking and hunting

Re: walnut tree?

Hi all
I'm learning more about foraging (in other words more than apples, elders & blackberries)
Where should I be looking for Walnuts?
I'm in Tameside but willing to travel for a good forage/scrump
Thanks

Re: No rubbish fortnight

This has been an interesting read. About a year ago our council swapped our refuse and recycling bins round. Our recycling bin is now the big black bin and our refuse bin is now the tiny green bin which only fit 2 full black bags and emptied fortnightly. A few weeks back I got sick of struggling wit...

Re: Composty questions

:( 90% of my garden is potted as its mostly patio, but I might be able to put bin 2 on soil if I remove some flags in the front, the back patio is raised by 10ft due to the hill.
Thanks for the advice :)

Re: 101 Uses for Vodka!

best not used on kids but rinse hair in strong vodksi to kill off nits! I've seen this twice on her whilst looking. My 11 year old has the dreaded nits and as her hair is so long and thick we have had a real fight on our hands and we always seems to miss one or two. But I think (fingers crossed ) I...

Re: Chestnuts - how and when do I use them?

Hi all I've been collecting Chestnuts today, its a poor season here this year but we managed to get a few, though most are the size a hazelnut. How would you be recommend storing them till Christmas, I don't like the idea of putting them in a plastic bag in the fridge, but would a tin/jar/cloth bag ...
