Re: musical instruments - any trombone players on here?

yep, played trombone for years. Hm. Trick is learning where all the positions are then learning to use the lips to get the proper notes out. Warm it up b4 starting each playing session by blowing air through it. Mouthpiece should feel warm b4 you start playing. He could practice by trying to get the...

Re: Plan/build a sturdy shed/workshop for windy location?

aye, i would agree with the green roof idea. I'm in a high wind area as well and green roofs are heavy and stay put in stormy weather.. You could just do post and beam. Build a frame out of 4" x 4" posts then clad it. Put a gable roof on.. Flat roofs are terrible for windy locations. Best ...

Re: So who manages without TV?

no tv for nearly 6 years. Don't miss it. No iplayer and no broadband and not enough power to think about running my laptop anyways! My internet usage is pretty much solely on mobile phone. Instead of broadband and tv... We play guitar for several hours in the evenings.

Re: Turf Walls

hello, i wondered the same thing a few years ago! We've since built a lot with turf here. My brother-in-law built an entire horse shelter out of it. I describe the method on my blog. sitdownbymyweefire.blogspot.com look under the label "vernacular building" and yes, there is a book... Call...

Came across this field on the moor yesterday.. Field that looked like fairly normal over grown field with long grass, t...

Re: thunder box/ compost toilet question/s

Treebog.jpg this is our treebog. You can just build a platform that takes the weight of one person sitting on it. Fit a normal toilet seat on the platform and have a step up to the platform. Ours is posh... Lol has a wood fired shower too. On the otherside of the building i attached a tool hut and ...

Re: thunder box/ compost toilet question/s

hmm... I'd skip the hole in the ground. If it is just temporary build a small box above ground with slats between the boards so it gets aeration. Fill the box half full loosely with grass clippings and then dump the contents in there... Covering each deposit from your bucket. You could plant willow ...
