Sounds like Powdery Mildew to me.
My plants had the same probelm this year.

What we need is a hard winter followed by a hot, long summer.

BTW this place seems to have a few kiwis.
Man do I feel at home.

Soak some tobacco leaves in water for a week or so and spray on vege plants, just not to close to harvesting otherwise your lettuces could give you lung cancer .

Anyone know anything about the "Perpetual leek"?
I'm getting given some plants and would be interested to see if anyone else here grows it?

Generally you lay out your potatoes to chit about 6 weeks before planting.
Don't do it any earlier otherwise the shoots get too long and the potato shrivels up.
