Thanks much Fen!
Thanks so much Fen...If I have any more questions I will certainly ask animals are too precious to make silly avoidable mistakes when it comes to their welfare. I do like the idea of adopting battery hens. Do you see any issues related to this? I have a web site that looks good, but I do wonder abou...

My bread maker just died!
Oh no! My lovely bread maker that I use every week just died! It still makes bread but it no longer heats up to make the bread rise! What a shame. Still it's warm enough for it to rise slowly so the bread comes out okay despite this problem. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive reliable model. I use my...

Thanks for the advise :-)
I will look for this book. I spend 8 years as a veterinary nurse in the USA often working with large farm animals and birds such as chickens etc. But a book is always a good reminder and excellent reference if you get stuck. Besides medicines are called different names here in the UK so that part ha...

Lack of light
the plants are out doors, and in full sun, there are no trees nearby. Maybe the warming blanket is the problem?? What do you think?

Edges of marrow leaves turning white
What could be the cause of this. I have never seen this happen before. these are young plants that are being grown by a friend of mine and she asked me to contact you regarding this. She only planted her well established sprouts a week ago. They are covered by a warming blanket that lets in light an...

Your suggestion has worked
Light must have been the problem. I started some marrow and put them outside in the cloche where it's warm and gets sunlight all day. They are growing as expected, not tall and weedy but short and fat. Just like me.. So from now on the window sill will be used only until they peek out and then...

Growing medium
Stuff from B&Q that claims to be growing bag, and some worm cast I have. I don't use peat anymore too many questions about it's sustainability. I don't use any fertilizers, or such because I feel the seeds simply don't need it. The window sill is quite short and right next to the window. Might t...
