Soay sheep?
Does anyone know of anyone selling soay sheep in britain? We were going to buy some, but it fell through and now we are looking again. I would accept sheep from anywhere, although scotland would be best.

That site looks quite helpful, thanks! The lamb is 12 weeks old, and should really be weaned now but he still gets one bottle a day until we use up this bag of milk replacer. The creep (basically a mixture of grains mollasses and pellet things) does have the proper Ca:P ratio as it says on that site...

Urinary calculi
One of our lambs now has urinary calculi. :( I know I have bored you all to death already with the lambs many health problems, but do you mind if I ask your advice again? we took him to the vet (who also looked at the bald ears, but decided that that wasnt the most important thing to worry about rig...

The hair seems to be growing back on his ears today! there are lots of short black hairs coming in, although his head is still a bit bald. Still have no clue what it is, but I was thinking - could it be the stress of losing his brother that is making his hair fall out? He was very upset and was terr...

When I asked the vet, he didnt seem worried. He just suggested that I wash the bald bits in baby shampoo and leave it to see what happens. If its not any better by next week come and speak to him again. The lamb seems no better, but no worse either but has stopped scratching - maybe it was just the ...

I would let them out now. There is no need to wait untill they are laying - we let ours out over a month before they started laying. If they have been there more than a week, and take themselves to bed at night even while they are in the run, they should know by now that it is home. I would be surpr...

I'll pop into the vets tommorow and ask about the lamb. I was just wondering if its a normal sheep thing - these our our first sheep, so I am still learning! As I said before, the lamb doesnt seem to bothered and the other one is fine. It doesnt look like ringworm - that seems to come in little roun...

Lamb going bald!
One of our lambs is going bald! His ears no longer have any hair on the back - just a little bit round the edge - and the skin looks a little flakey. there is also a large patch on the back of his head where the wool is shorter and finer. the skin is just showing through. has anyone experienced this...

This is quite a hard habit to break, because once they realise that eggs taste nice they will always try to eat them. We have never experienced this problem, but a friend has. she puts clay eggs in the next box (you can buy them from most livestock stores) which the hens try to peck. Since the eggs ...

Maybe it was a bug. If you keep giving her everything the vet says, that might get her strength up a bit and that alone could help her start eating. with many animals, if they get a bit ill and off their food they get too weak and dehydrated to want to start again, so I think you're doing the right ...
