Well I've never actually done it but I vaguely remember reading somewhere a long long time ago (so I'm not accurate ok :wink: ) about a simple drum made of chicken wire. Wheat was rotated inside that and apparently did the job This chicken wire must obviously have been the small mesh type..I suppose.

oh by the way that wipe down with a damp flannel followed by a vigorous drying with a clean towel is very effective and quite invigorating if there are no other facilities available. There's no need to be dirty if there is no shower around!! :roll:

The smell issue is interesting cos everyone is a bit different. Smell has a lot to do with levels of stress and more especially diet I think. Gidday Yeah, but Robin, that's the scientific ways. Therefore if you want to follow that line you gotta go chemical farming. Just leave it to nature and put on as much un-decomposed green vegetable matter as you can onto the surface or top layer of the soil and nature will do all the hard expensive...

I agree ph is not worth worrying about - whether your soil is too acidic or too alkaline the remedy is still to add plenty of humus/compost to your garden.

Just like to offer the warning that baking soda is quite abrasive so really good for general cleaning. I wouldn't use it on my skin.
