Re: Cob 'barn'?
Thanks everyone. Metal prefab constructions by and large don't fall into that category so proceed fairly easily. You might find yourself having to explain your choice of materials and why you particularly want it for this project. Yes, thank you. I was coming to realise myself after looking at what ...

Cob 'barn'?
Hey all. We'll be going down the 'field to farm' type route soon enough. Part of this process is applying for prior notice of agricultural use building. I've searched everywhere for information on what are the materials criteria for such a barn but cant find it. I've read that the materials from whi...

Re: composting-ish
ok, thanks for the clarification... so something, like leaves, being completely dry and brown aren't necessarily Brown... good grief. so look for brittle slightly woody stems.... got it... i think :)

Re: composting-ish

thanks about the brown confirmation... wasn't sure whether it was simply dry plants or something to do with their chemical component! :p

Re: composting-ish
okay, this is really helpful. I had no idea a bin liner could be used! So that or a water butt, or anything similar as long as we have holes in the bottom. Got it. Now I just need to work out what brown to use. I can shred paper by hand at least and cardboard. That and kicthen waste, a little gree c...

Re: Paper logs
Thanks pbf.
I've taken a look at various photos online and it seems one thing that can easily be made at home. I think just some sort of tin, as howie mentions. And perhaps a tight-fitted disc thingy with a handle to push down.

Septic tank (sort of)
Hi everyone, We're just built a septic tank thingy. Well, it has four concrete sides but a natural earthen bottom. It's how they do them here. The idea is that liquid seeps into the ground and solids degrade because they have a system whereby the liquid separates from the solids. I think... Point be...

Re: The problem with composting paper & cardboard
So useful to know! I'm a compost virgin.
Might it be successful and beneficial to compost paper separately? It's that recycling initiatives where I live are facades.
