Re: What can I do with an old bike?

You could have a go at cleaning it up! You might be surprised how much of the rust comes off easily (sorry, did I say easily? I obviously meant with lots of scrubbing). There is a good guide to green cleaning methods at http://oldbikeblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/guest-blogger-green-clean-your-bicycle.h...

Re: Azada, good idea or what?

The same tool - essentially a digging hoe - has been made and exported for years by the Chillington Tool Company. You can buy their Crocodile brand digging or trenching hoes online - http://www.chillingtontoolsonline.co.uk. I bought one in the autumn in advance of digging over new veg beds this spri...

Re: Starting a new project!

I'm very interested! How does the three-wheel system work? I assume the two front wheels are steered and therefore mounted individually and not on a single axle.... I've got a couple of old bicycle frames I've been saving for a building project - either a trailer or a 'bent. I had thought of convert...

You need to get a miniature version of these signs from Nottingham...

Re: Fox digging up the beds

Using socks to keep away a fox?

Is this some kind of sympathetic magic approach; use something that rhymes with the thing you're trying to deter?

Would putting a chair in the veg plot keep hares out but not work on rabbits? :c)

Ah...I've been away from the board for a while due to illness and completely missed your trip.

Pity I didn't know you were in my vicinity...given I have more than a passing interest in your chosen mode of transport!

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once

Just recently re-read Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" for the umpteenth time.

Flann O'Brien's "The Third Policeman" - read it more times than I can remember.

Re: Pizza - getting the right flavour?

My personal experience is that the qualtity and quality of the olive oil used in the dough has more effect that almost any other ingredient. I have also added yoghurt to the dough to make a Nan-type flatbread. Unfortunately I don't have a tandoor but a hot, dry pan or wok works just as well. (Just t...

Re: State funeral for Thatcher?

I watched that, and I'm an awful pedant - so I checked the figures. Now I want to know where you can buy a Scottish shovel for 60 pence. I imagine most of the population would happily dig with their bare hands. We'd only need a limted number of shovels for smacking her in the face to ensure she did...

Re: State funeral for Thatcher?

Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week reckoned that for the £3million budget that is being discussed, they could buy a shovel for every person in Scotland and we'd dig a hole sooooooo deep that they could hand her over to Satan personally!

Re: Good Life is back!?!

Sorry...I'm talking utter manure again. It's apparently on UKTV Gold..which isn't a Freeview channel.

That'll teach me to think I can get away with using a snatched glimpse of a TV screen as a citable source!

Please forgive...

Has anyone else noticed that The Good Life is back on "Dave"?

Or is this old news...?

Re: State funeral for Thatcher?

Naturally there should be no honours for socio-economic criminals like her but that won't stop them. I'm reminded of a card I once saw to mark the death of Winston Churchill which showed two miners arm-in-arm dancing a jig! How you see things depends entirely on where you're standing... My only worr...
