Re: Paper pots

I did try this one year but to make enough for all my allotment starter seedlings would be a full time job. Back to thrown out cup from work, plastic throw aways etc :)

Re: Asparagus for beginners?

I've been playing this game too over the last few years, first I bought 3 wilko/similar cheap crown and planted them in a barrel, two survived and the others give not enough shoots for a meal, so 2 or 3 at a time.... so I planted some seeds in spring, waited forever then gave up watering them thinki...

Re: Oca

Pick the biggest to save. (To my knowledge) they dont produce solanine when exposed to the light but will sprout so do keep them dark. Ok to eat but i wouldnt pig out on them as they are in the oxalis family and do contain some oxalic acid - a build up of which is toxic. Ooo thank you good info! Ox...

Oca

Oh I do feel like a very infrequent poster these days... will try to do better in the new year honest! Meanwhile I know some of you have experience with Oca - I've had a go this year for the first time, harvested them Mid Nov as recommended with hundreds of pebble sized tubers  I grew t...

Re: Celeriac which refuses to root up.....help!!

I grow celeriac, they do like a bit of compost in teh soil unlike carrots, parsnips etc, the roots are about the size of golfballs at the moment but they should grow more (I manage to get tennis ball size but not much more). Mine have never flowered- that does sound like bolting due to lack of water...

Flea beetle

Re: Triangle shaped allotment - help needed to plan!

Ah wish I'd spotted this earlier- I've got two triangle allotments! Fortunately they are not clay so I guess my experiences probably won't count for much but nice to know I'm not alone! I basically have divided one into three- the top sliced off as one bit that is always a triange then the two botto...

Re: Mole.......aaagh!

I thought my courgettes were just suffering with the dry weather but when watering a few weeks back a gaping hole opened up... mole track :angryfire: I get little windmills every year and keep having to move them around but they don't last long and tend to get wrecked in teh wind in the end so I'm w...

Re: Potatoe Help Please!

I normally get a bit of scab on my potatoes and have never taken any notice (not even peeled them as I'm not worried about the skin texture, maybe nipped off the worst). This year I had a nasty surprise, assuming the little dark spot was a bit of scab I ignored it, didn't peel, cut into the spud on ...
