Re: Hello live from VT

Hi Mike, I'm no expert in these matters, but If the dc motor that you pulled out is less than about 48 volts i dont think you'll feel much. If its any more than that, you really dont want to go attaching yourself to it - it starts to get dangerious around that point. If you wanted to charge 12volt b...

Re: EcoFan

I got mine on fluesystems.com for about 40 quid cheaper than the price you quoted.

It certainly spins but it doesn't seem to shift the amount of air around that I would have hoped for. I'm slightly disappointed however I hear the 3 fan/blade version is better.

Re: Charge Controller Size? - Help Please

Hi I currently have 18W solar panel for charging 72Ah leisure battery as part of my offgrid living. I am intending to buy either 1 or 2 130W panels giving me either 148W or 278W. Can someone recommend the size of a charge controller for: a) 148W, and b) 278W Thanks Alex As far as i knew (or thought...

Re: getting rid of the fridge and freezer.....

>my fridge and freezer uses 3.7kw per day Crumbs... clean those radiator pipes ! Mine uses 0.6kwh / day Mine is an A rated appliance but 3.7kwh/day seems quite bad ! is it a chest freezer ? In a similar vein, I like having a fridge and freezer but dislike energy use (and their associated bills). Has...

Re: Energy Prices

Gug, Just done a check on the website of ebico and on my last eon bill I would have saved £211 on my electric and about £7 on my gas...... Thank you. Also thank you from my son and at least 7 other "poor students" p in Newcastle as they have got a flat together for their second year and a...

Re: Energy Prices

Sneaky trick that some energy companies pull is to charge you more, the less you use. Npower used to do this to me for gas. Look up http://www.ebico.co.uk, they're an "ethical" non-profit and they charge you a flat rate no matter how much (or little) you use. (i only have them for gas -but...

Re: solar or wind for 12v supply help

Hi I'm trying to get free power to run a small 12v. pump,to deliver water from a stored rainwater source around my farmhouse to feed the toilet. As we are on a water meter I feel that the savings would be very handy. The problem is I am useless with electrics(but willing to learn), and I am trying ...

It only seems like yesterday that us Greenies were extolling the virtues of Bio-fuels over fossil fuels. I just can't keep up...  Yes, things have certainly changed. When i started running my car on veg oil 5 years ago, a litre of new oil was about 42 pence in asda. I went in there ...

Im afraid this is greenwash. BP made 11 BILLION pounds (give or take) profit last year. They spend it by advertising that they are investing 250 million pounds over 10 years into biofuels. So about 2% of last years profits , stretched over the next 10 years. Not much of a commitment - infact, a sum,...

I'm rapidly going off the idea, ganna cause too many probs with my current system. However its all good fodder for the future!. ahh, dont be put off. Flat plate collectors DO work - but my personal ideal is to get the *vast* majority of my hot water via a system year round (hence my interest in eva...

hi, before you go building any flat plate collectors, whilst cheap, they arent much good unless you get a lot of direct sunlight. I built one out of an old copper water cylinder (but not plumbed it in) a while ago. I can confirm that (the plates) get bl**dy hot in direct sunlight ! - although I've h...

Many people see it as an easy way of tax evasion, which can't be right I'm not sure about right (and wrong). Its certainly illegal (like more and more things lately - depending upon what our dear leader feels like this week). I have no objection with paying tax (christ knows, as a single man with n...
