Re: One bin, one year, one family. Hooray.

Green Rosie, I'm sorry you don't feel I'm paying enough attention to the cork issue and that I brushed it aside. yes the site focuses on the landfill issue and that's what we talk about on the site. I do care about the 'bigger picture' however, but in the past I ran a website and it became so 'dilut...

Re: One bin, one year, one family. Hooray.

t the end of the day this is a very credible achievement -BUT not practical to emulate by the vast majority of us I completely agree. The message of our site is always that if everyone does just a little bit, the collective impact can be huge. We never expect people to do as drastic as we have done...

Re: One bin, one year, one family. Hooray.

Mmmm, it seems you're all talking about my husband's penchant for curry sauce from a jar. And the fact that I have to be 'ish' all the way or not at all  Anyway, glad some of you liked the story. I think the key here is that we can preach to the converted all we like; that won't change anyt...

Re: Question about Elsinore recipe on site

  well I have to say, I've now made this 4 times and it's a huge thumbs up from us! DH said that if I made this bread all the time he would never buy another shop-bought loaf again! By Jove, I've finally bloomin' well done it! Thanks for the recipe, Andy! I tried to upload images, but it s...

Re: Question about Elsinore recipe on site

It's in the oven now and it smells DELICIOUS!!

The dough was very sticky, so I hope it cooks through - fingers crossed. If it's a masterpiece I shall post up a picture later.

Re: choose a good multi fuel/wood burning stove with boiler

I've got a 12kw villager, which runs 7 radiators over 3 floors and tops up (I wouldn't say it would heat it enough for a bath unless blasting with something like old pallets) the hot water. It's not very efficient though and I would, in hindsight spend more money on a pellet stove. I guess villager ...

Re: Question about Elsinore recipe on site

Thank you! I'm going to make it this week, so I'll let you know how I get on!

I've not yet managed to make successful bread, apart from a loaf last week of wholewheat spelt bread, so I'm feeling on a roll

Question about Elsinore recipe on site

I've been looking at the Elsinore recipe on the ish site which sounds intriguing!

http://www.selfsufficientish.com/elsinorebread.htm

I'm wondering what type of flour to use - I don't know who shared the recipe, so not sure who to ask for help.

Re: UK Blight Alert: Help others to try and prevent it

I've treated this successfully in the past with horsetail; at least it helps me make friends with this bloomin' weed a bit :angryfire:

I've written the recipe I used on my site:

Re: LED or Energy Saver?

My understanding is that LEDS last 10 times longer than cfls AND they cost less to run. Ours run from a car battery at the moment. The big factor for me is that LEDs do not contain mercury, so they win hands down The light needs getting used to though; as they are pretty directional rather than what...
