Re: Elderberries!!

Elderberry Port is well worth a go too! Last year we made it with 1.6kg elderberries, 450g mixed currants (black is fine, but we had lots of white and red too to use up), 450g sloes, 900g Blackberries, 1kg of cherries strained from the cherry brandy, 200ml red grape conc. together with 1kg golden gr...

Re: Ducks

hehe! Still not got them yet. Just thinking that they can't make as much noise as dogs! So neighbours can't really complain! The place we thought about getting them from have the Indian Runners, Aylesbury and call ducks.

Re: Ducks

Thank you very much. I think the Mini Crested Apricot sound ideal. We want them to look pretty, for eggs, and pets. (To live alongside 3 cats & 7 chickens). We have never wanted a male before, but now considering it, does the male make a lot more noise though, as I don't want to upset the neighb...

Re: Ducks

Thank you. Our garden is 64m square, we currently have 7 chickens. We were thinking about 2 or 3 ducks, I read somewhere that they get on better if there are 3. I am trying to find out about housing and space needed, thinking about making a simple pyramid/triangle house and then if they had at least...

Ducks

We are thinking about getting ducks, very early days!
We got some more chickens yesterday and they had ducks, we thought wouldn't it be nice to have ducks too! But we don't know the first thing about duck keeping.
Any advice please?

Cherries

I am now foraging for Cherries, I have found a couple of great trees, dripping with cherries that are ripening very quickly. I made Elderflower cordial last weekend (and wine) but I am wondering if I can make cherry cordial, I have found a recipe for one made ith brandy, but was hoping to do to teh ...

Re: Turnip/swede/winter radish wine???

Thanks Mike. I have added pectic enzyme, 3 tsps for now, I am swishing it around everyday and it seems to be clearing form the bottom up. So after a week I might add more enzyme until it clears! Also spent 3 hours picking yesterday, have sloes prepared and ready to start a sloe wine today, made some...

Re: Turnip/swede/winter radish wine???

I have boiled up the Turnips and Swede, at teh moment it's cooling with the sugar in the 'bin'. Will have to remember to post how I get on! I did Parsnip last year, and althoug...

Turnip/swede/winter radish wine???

I picked lots of turnips, swede and winter radish last week. I am in the process of making turnip wine, but might throw in a couple of swede as well (to use them up). I have discovered that one of the swedes is in fact a radish!! So I was wondering about throwing this in as well. Am I mad? Or should...

Re: wine, where do I start??

Haha, just found this post,
thought I would give an update!
The wine is still sittin gin a demi john in the garage, it gets racked occasionally, but it hasn't cleared!
Maybe one day it will!
I think the juicer took something out of the grape skins that has caused it not to clear!

Re: wine.... now what?

Well done, I did Rhubarb and grape, opened the first bottle on holiday a couple of weeks ago, it was lovely.
Have some courgette to rack today, and then some Damson to start!
