Re: Storing chestnuts
I hang mine around in old fishing nets in the cellar during the winter.
But you can make purees which you can store in kilner jars or freeze, or make flour (which is really quite labour intensive but does have a lovely taste for cakes and biscuits).

Re: old aga/rayburn solid fuel cookers
You cannot run a back boiler empty, it will crack. (A Rayburn is solid fuel - usually a multi fuel and an Aga is a gas/electric/oil run system) If you do not wish to plumb in your Rayburn you can fill the back boiler with sand as a heat sink. However once full of sand you can never run it as a back ...

Re: Rabbit Fur
I am saving my skins to make glove and boot liners for the winter. I have 5 so far and another 5 rabbits due for a cull the first free weekend coming up. Had not considered a patch rug - but feel perhaps that the cats may decide that it is their divine right to sleep on it constantly. Well done on y...

Re: Wash A Sheepskin Rug
you can wash them on a cold wash in the machine as stated above, but a dry shampoo is better, then brush it with an animal brush - the ones with lots of little metal pins, that gets lots of the dirty knots out, pulls the fleece out so it goes all fluffy again and gets loads of bits of debris out of ...

Re: Game Pie?
I've never heard of flavour improving by length of time in the freezer, maybe you were just hungrier so it tasted better?
Maybe it was because it was bigger and therefore it cooked for longer and had a better flavour?

Re: What are your best beauty tips, tricks and secrets?
Warm up olive oil and honey, apply to hair and cover with a plastic bag for 20min. This can really bring back 'dead' ends back to life and makes your hair really shiny and vibrant My OH just suggested that a plastic bag over my head for 20mins would improve my looks no end. ..he is now sitt...

Re: Turn of the century vintage
.............. Maybe I'll open up my house as a museum as we still have a turntable which works and records and stuff.! Yes, it's frightening the number of kids that come to our house and ask 'What's that?' pointing at the turntable. LOL - made me laugh Graham - if only I had a pound for ever...

Re: How do I manage moles ?
I have plastic bottles on the tops of any canes that I use in the actual veggie garden as apparently they don't like the vibrations below ground, but in addition our cat has become quite a good mole catcher so that is keeping the immediate local population down. Our paddock doesn't suffer with moles...

Re: Another use for courgettes
I cut my marrows (which would have been courgettes but for the fact that we had a storm on Sunday night and they just exploded yesterday), start again - I cut my marrows into rings, stuffed them with some random left overs from the freezer, beef stew I hope, added a bit more water then shoved them i...
