Re: I knew I was no longer a bright young thing when...

OK - I am definitely old - a nice cup of tea solves everything, taking my coat off when I step inside anywhere so that I feel the benefit, always having a tissue in my pocket and going to bed at 8.30 for the last couple of nights (although that last one may be due to recovering from flu this week). ...

Re: Cling film green house

Looks great - I have one of those little fold away green houses that the plastic split on ages ago, so every year I get the frame out and cover it in shrink wrap and use to cover the first outdoor seedlings. Very light and portable. I can't find the link right now but somewhere on here there is a fa...

Re: keep pet fish properly (alive!)

We have just been through a beta fish keeping thing with our daughter. We got a little tank that is an all in one set up for a solitary fish (they should be solitary as they fight) and have now had 3 fish, the longest of which lasted a week. We have no idea why they died, we used water conditioners ...

Re: when you only need a LITTLE BIT of seeds........

Lidl in Holland have the same cheap seeds as here in France but only in about March and April, same as here in France - only a limited time but their choice is pretty good. (A friend bought the same selection of seeds in Utrecht as I did here in France).

Re: Have you ever seen a ghost?

We live in an old French farmhouse from the early 1800s. Sometimes at night you can smell cigarette smoke on the stairs (none of us smoke) and occasionally you hear ladies talking and giggling, singing along to some old folky peasant music. The house never leaves us with the feeling of anything horr...

Re: Small village rumours

You could try mentioning it to the friend you suspect of furthering the gossip in a jokey "you'll never believe the rubbish I 've just heard" and plainly laughing at it.

If it is just a silly bit of new year whimsy the fact that you dismiss it and make light of it may nip it in the bud

Re: Happy families at Christmas

I found that moving abroad had a an excellent consequence. No more Christmases with family, they all consider it far too cold to come to the rural backwater we live in, and so we always have a houseful of friends instead. Much more relaxed, much more fun.

Re: Natural remedies for painful wees....?

There are lots of good suggestions there and it sounds as though they are all starting to make a difference. My only suggestion is when at the height of stingyiness (?) should it return, a good way to ease the pain of weeing is to wee into a cold damp cloth held against the area, helps to numb the p...

I make my own which I hand out to people and when sending cards by post I use photographs and send them as postcards rather than in envelopes to cut down on paper usage and postage costs.

Re: Buy nothing new for a year challenge

Did no new clothes for 2010. Was OK to start off with, plenty of sewing and refashioning going on, then I ran out of steam a bit, ruining a couple of pairs of trousers at work and got a bit frustrated when touring the sales. On whole though I thought it was a good experience. Not sure if I could do ...

Re: How "green"is your xmas tree?

I have the same artificial tree that we used when I was a child, my daughter is now 14 herself and it is still looking good. It even packs away into its original Woolies box with its original price tag of £3.50 on it. Every year we vary the decoration theme and sometimes fill it out with holly and i...
