Thank you both for the replies, I will get out there and have a go, I have nothing to lose anyway... I'd love to be able to make something useful with it as well, we just use it for pea sticks so far. I have seen instructions for a wicker type chair, I wonder if hazel would work for that... ... just...

Planting a hazel hedge
Hi there If anyone could help me with this I'd be grateful, I'm having trouble finding what I need to know on the internet. I'd like to plant some hazel along one side of our field, and as we have quite a bit already around the other edges, would like to use some whips cut from the existing trees. I...

Hi Moomintroll I'm sure there's someone here who can give you a better answer, but I don't see why turnips shouldn't follow potatoes. I usually do it the other way round though I'm not sure why now!! However, I can tell you that none of my turnips have come up either, though I've sown seeds several ...

I suspect there are slightly different interpretations so I can only go by my book, which says it's more to do with whether the moon is travelling upwards or downwards in our skies, and then what constellation it's heading through. It's descending at the moment, which is generally a good time for ta...

We've been here just over 4 years.......but we haven't got around yet to doing anything major on the power front. One of our future projects will be to put in a wood-burning range with a back boiler, and also a solar panel or two. I have read a bit through the tax laws and (from memory) up till 2009...

Hi Fee Fairy, I can't recommend any books I'm afraid. Apart from my almanac I've found most of my answers on the internet.....this site is quite good I think. http://home.earthlink.net/~planthoe7/lunargardening.htm Hope this helps, though I know I'd probably rather have a book myself! (I have far to...

I've done moon gardening -ish for the last 2 years.......it's difficult to say how well it's worked since I can only compare with the previous year and the weather's been so different anyway. The main advantage for me has been that I've had a guide as to what to do when, which was especially confusi...

I agree about the French bread.....and it doesn't seem to keep more than a few hours either.... I make my own bread using the breadmaker on the dough setting and finishing off in the oven. At first sight it doesn't seem a very green way to go about things, but then we find the bread cooked in the ma...
