Re: New event in Aberystwyth to get people growing organic veg!

I'm glad you can come, we really do need lots of local people to make it a success, please do tell all your friends and neighbours! From Llanilar, come to the roundabout at the top of Penparcau and take the 1st left, as if you were going to the sea front. Pass the post office on your right, and then...

Allotment envy

Thanks Andy, as I walk into work I pass some allotments, and someone there has MAGNIFICENT sweetcorn, a whole big stand of it. And espaliered pear trees dripping with fruit, AND tonnes of brassicas without any holes in them....ah unattainable perfection...

thanks for comments

Thanks for your replies, I hesitated to just rip them out and buy more, so now I will just leave them alone for another year, not feed them any more, and see if they produce anything. Cheers.

Rubbish sweetcorn!

I have successfully grown sweetcorn for 7 years at least, but not this year! They did not move when planted out for at least 2 and a half months, some not at all, and the two that did move are a disappointing 2 ft tall. I am in a new garden - to me- that has been a veg patch for at least 3 years, an...

No strawberries on my strawberries!

I planted some strawberries in september last year, gave them plenty of manure etc. and have left them alone since. I have a patch about 6ft by 3ft solid with them, and got only 3 strawberries, no flowers either! Any ideas what could have gone wrong? There are no obvious signs of disease. Grateful f...

Deluxe blackberry jam

I have picked at least 10 pounds of blackberries already this year, in west wales, and have been experimenting with making jam. I find that 4 and a half pound of fruit, mashed in a pan on full heat, and then adding 2 pounds of sugar, works well. Allow it to cook for half an hour and test for a set. ...
