Thank you for all your replies. Chard food festival here I come!
Even though it is raining here I'm off to get some of my chard for a lovely salad for lunch.

Re: Green gas from Ecotricity

From the info on their web pages; gas is produced from anaerobic degradation of food waste, so I think it is more sustainable than conventional sources.
It wont be 100% green from day one but the money I pay will be invested in production of green gas plants and technologies...

Green gas from Ecotricity

Hi,
Anyone signed up for this green gas from Ecotricity? Seems a bit more expensive than what I'm paying at the moment but just wondered if any fellow ishers had taken the plunge and what they thought (or anyone else ). thanks

(Swiss) Chard

Help! I think my red stemmed chard is ready to harvest from my allotment. As I got the plants from a neighbour I have no idea what to do with it :dontknow: . I have scoured the internet, but have not been able to find too much about it. From what I managed to piece together from my allotment veg bib...

Re: Lavender biscuits

So do I! Alys Fowler did them on her tv programme a few weeks back and she used the flowers I think.
Sorry I haven't a clue but I'll surf the web to have a look.

Re: my first forray into Burda

Oh my, the pattern looks horrendous to decipher. I feel sick just by looking at it. I have been on the burda site a few times - admired the clothes, but not downloaded anything. I think I will give it a miss now. Good for you for giving it a go though!! I found a new site ( to me anyway) and thought...

Edelweiss

Does any one have any experience of growing Edelweiss in the UK, especially Scotland?

I fancy going back to my roots (my omi is Austrian) and having a go at growing some, but don't know where to start.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :flower:

Re: The Ish home haircut

I hate going to the hairdressers!!! I can't justify spending all that money on a haircut I couldn't reproduce at home without industrial products and 3 hours ( I have quite curly coarse hair). After reading loads of books and searching on line I found a layered cut which works best for me- Comb you ...

Re: what's it like to live in scotland?

Great! Just don't tell too many people. It is hugely varied but please don't just look at the central belt. Here on the east coast we don't seem to have the same extent of religious conflict citizentwiglet has had experience of, but then there are not very many faith schools in my area (or private w...

Ticks, the bane of all gammies lives! And they are getting worse up the glens; thanks cimate change with the wetter and warmer weather they seem to be around for longer and in greater quantities (now there is a useful PhD!) If you tried to remove the tick with a pair of tweezers (I know it seems lik...

Congratulations, that's wonderful news!! I did miss you and had wondered where you had gone citizentwiglet. I had hospital births for both my two girls and while i don't like being in there I found it reassuring being in a consultant led unit; I needed an emergency c-section with my younges...

It is interesting to read all these ideas for an eco deoderant as I am always on the look out for a green alternative. I haven't tried any crystals but over the years I have used pitrock, Weleda and green people deoderant and haven't found them any good. However, one thing I have found absolutely am...

I must have gone to the wrong box scheme :( I ordered a box from our local box scheme and it only lasted about 3 days ( fruit was gone in a matter of hours!). I thought it was very expensive for what I got and not econmical for my family of 4. Now we have the allotment, hopefully we can grow a lot m...
