Re: Emptying the supermarket shelves
//snip// I would be interested if anyone actually knows how to do this properly - I am playing with a new(ish) plant called sunn hemp (looks like but isn't). The plant is a tall (6ft) summer growing annual legume that can be used for stock feed and green manure (my objectives at the moment) but can...

Re: Emptying the supermarket shelves
//snip// Most of us can't produce the materials raw to make clothes - that's back to the dim and distant past. Have we become too reliant on "modern technology" to provide our needs? wool is still available unless they ban sheep. Spun or felted it can make clothing, I'm the 'dim and past ...

Re: Emptying the supermarket shelves
I have a huge pile of washcloths and a washing machine. As long as I don't run out of washing powder I'll manage if the loo rolls run out. Persuading my OH and gal to use them however.   Not just me then, old sheets and towels repurposed. I did think it was odd that people start...

Re: Recycling hoarded fabrics
What my mother used to do - cut those sheets in half down the middle and sow them back together inside out. You do have a slightly annoying seam down the middle, but the sheets will last another few years. They were known as Sides to Middles in our house, if you made a careful French seam there was...

Re: Recycling hoarded fabrics
I do, on occasion, and have a basic rug loom, (which probably needs a new home because I reverted, due to circumstances, to knitting up the majority of the mass of rug wool I'd acquired) cutting fabric into bits to remake is like patchworking, unless you're an artist and can sell, I can't see the po...

Re: Recycling hoarded fabrics
Oh I've shelves full of patterns Maggie, ,nearly eighty years of them, from baby to adult, but most of the fabric isn't suitable, it'd be a bit 'sound of music' where she clothes the kids in furnishing fabric. (lol. I have Dirndl and berg hosen patterns) From past experience old sheets make good san...

Re: Recycling hoarded fabrics

Recycling hoarded fabrics
Finding myself re-stacking duvet covers and curtains which we no longer use I thought they'd make some shoppers/totes. :sign7: :sign7: They did, took a couple of handfuls to the foodbank who were calling for 'bags for life', some to charity shops, because I haven't the front to stand around handing ...

Re: rhubarb and Rabbits
my rabbits never ate the rhubarb leaves (when loose in the garden), and I never purposely fed any to them as I believed them too full of oxalic acid to be safe
