never heard about the edible oak. how do you recognize it?
For the pastry recipe, you need to boil the pealed acorns about six times with water to make them edible.

The sweet chestnuts' shells have lots more spikes which are more thin also and can really hurt when you open them with bare hands.

The horse chesnuts' shells don't really harm and the chestnuts themselves are quite round, while the sweet ones are kinda pointed.

i recently made pie with this year's chestnuts (non roasted) and french chestnut cream. mixed it with a little sugar, two eggs, flour, a little water for the yeast and milk. I hacked the chestnuts for the mixture and left some just split in half to put on top. tasty. not too sweet and a little dry a...

I wonder if your gas air gun is strong enough to really kill a rabbit with a single shot... If so, you should rather get a better type of laser sight. Those on the Ebay link mostly seem to me like ones for airsoft (i.e. might losen too quickly with the recoil), and I'd definitely prefer a laser scop...

Right, i did this too, when fishing with my cousin one night. We came back to the camping site at about 2 am, got the pan and the eels ready and started frying. Whoever woke up and heard the sizzling might have been confused, but there's nothing like eating the catch directly after fishing's over. E...

Eels mostly wander around near the ground, looking for dead animals and worms. They are most active when the sun goes down and a few hours later. Here in Germany we catch them mostly in big rivers, ponds or lakes. The best season is from late august to early october. The line is fixed into a forked ...

Of course I still buy at supermarkets, being a student in a city. I can't afford buying only bio food, but I try to get fresh vegetables which are bio. I strugggle to get the food which is the least contaminated or which has little or no added chemicals like citric acid and so. What I'm eating is br...

Being on WWOOF in Slovakia, I stayed on a small farm of a czech self- sufficient couple. The man often just used the hay bed near the house, where his pumpkins grew, for "number one". I think about constructing a kind of stairs next to a compost frame, to climb up there and "humify&qu...

I read that bracken leaves are something that slugs dislike and they won't cross it. So it's also recommended for mulching. Never tried it out yet...

Hey what's the matter? So in the UK you get the same stuff in the same stores as we have in Germany? funny thing! If I knew I needed something for gardening in the next season when I was still planting in the woods, I wrote it down and in march or april they would have it in Aldi or LIDL... Li...

Well, the slug pellets ordinarily all have bad influence on some other living beings and on the soil. Nevertheless, I also used them when I had a wood garden where I couldn't go take a look each day and where they came from anywhere, so beer traps and the kind wouldn't work. But I found out about an...

Well, that's a pity for the visitors. For the people working there it is rather nice... When the season's over, you get the time to plan new activities for the next year. And you can focus on other activities you don't get the time to do in the summer. Like making comics, which could be a n...

Well, it's a scandinavian invention. Open- Air museum, reconstructed village. They started this on archeological spots of the viking age. Normally you construct a "Skansen" when you can mostly rely on clear facts. But there's also the possibilty to to experimental archeology: First, you ch...

Well, I started with food technology studies first, then I abandoned the subject after one year, being disgusted by what's going on in the food business... I continued to study history and french, preparing for teaching profession. But, being a teacher won't satisfy me neither, I think. You're very ...
