Thinking about starting with sheep

I've been thinking of renting a field and getting some sheep to put on it... There is a 2 acre field for rent on my drive to work, and I've been wondering whether we could rent it and put some sheep on it. Apart from the obvious thing, such as how much the field would be, and the other obvious thing...

Re: What should I do?

OK, loads of questions first! What kind of dog have you got? Some breeds are have higher prey drives etc than others... Where are your birds and rodents kept? Does your dog have access to this place - if so, could you seperate them? Is the dog getting in, or are the birds getting out? You may need t...

Re: Neighbours dogs

I agree with Julie.... it's a horrid thing to have to do as an animal lover, but your neighbours aren't thinking of the dogs' welfare. Either ring your local council dog warden, or the RSPCA. You can be completely anonymous if you'd like. Our next door neighbours now have 6 dogs of varying breeds. T...

Re: Live on a farm

We had thought about entering it, but then I got my practical head on.... What about the dogs? What about the hens and ducks? What about the veg patch? What about my job? What about paying my bills etc? Plus, if you do win, you have no idea where the smallholding will be, and have to be happy to rel...

Re: High Street Shopping

By all accounts, we are very lucky! Our local village has a butchers, bakers, 2 greengrocers, a fishmongers, florists, independent off-licence (i.e. not Thresher), a little deli/cheese shop, pet shop and post office, as well as a $par and Co-op, opticians, pharmacy, and a stationers. The local libra...

Re: An tips on how to encourage ishism in the family?

Previously, I have been much more into being Ish than my OH and I was the driver behind us having chickens, getting the polytunnel etc, However, now he has the bug! He has found out that another guy where he works is quite Ish, and they do a lot of note-comparing and bartering etc. OH has had lots o...

Murphy-Puppy in the Garden

OK, so he is a large puppy!! He is 2 and a half, which, in Boxer terms is still a baby. Luckily he has finished growing (and weighs in at about 5st 11lbs). Some pictures from the last year....

Re: Need advice about getting a puppy...

Just some general dog stuff.... Pup will need it's 'first' injections between 8 and 12 weeks - will depend on what brand the vet uses. Socialisation on the ground can begin after that. Boosters are usually yearly, with wormers at least twice a year (mine eat lots of poop so get wormed more). I don't...

Re: 'Ish Christmas

Last year we made small 'gift bags' for family and friends. The only things we bought were the actual gift bags (recycled paper ones) and the jars (which were nearly all given back to us) This year, we plan on doing the same.... and having mentioned it to several relatives etc, have been really happ...

Re: Help needed with life - long post

Chrissy - sounds like you've had a right old time of it... not nice to think you can count on friends and have it all go wrong :hugish: To reassure a bit... When I was at school (not THAT long ago) one of my friends fell pregnant, after going off the rails a bit. She was so off the rails she didn't ...
