Am I mad?

Well, on one level, I know I am mildly insane, but that's ok... I like it! However, I am seriously considering jacking in my stable, full time, guarenteed pay-rise every year, office job to buy and run an existing delicatessen/sandwich shop business.... I'm passionate about food, local produce and p...

Re: dog walkers etiquette

I have 2 large bouncy Boxers, weighing in at approx 5 and 6 stone each.... I used to say to people "oh, they're friendly, don't worry", but found as soon as I said it, they would do something that made them look distinctly UNfriendly (barking, snapping, hackles up, frothing at the mouth, boucing all...

Re: manky plums

I tend to snip the rotten ones off as soon as I spot them, and pick as soon as they look ripe (or just before!!)

Re: MAKE A BATH BOMB?

I buy bicarb from the same place as the link came from! We use chocolate moulds as well, and actually got (on ebay) an egg mould, so we package up our bath bombs in recycled, painted egg boxes....

Re: Polytunnel rib spacing

We've got 5ft spacings between ours (tho' it is a bought tunnel) and it's nice and sturdy... however, we've got ground anchors that are buried 2ft deep!

Re: Christmas hampers

What about soaps, bath bombs or bath salts? Was just about to post this!!! I made a selection of soaps, bath bombs, salts and basic salves last year... did some 'christmassy' ones - cinnamon, ginger etc, and some 'gardeners soap' - rosemary, tea tress, with scrubby bits in... Went down a storm! Eas...

Re: A personal question...

Oh goodness! I read about 8 or 9 books a week! I wouldn't dismiss authors on those grounds at all. I do have authors I particularly like, and also those who I find quite hard going. I joined the local library a few months ago, and decided not to read anything by authors whose books I already owned m...

Re: Duck advice please

We have both Khaki Campbells and Indian Runner Ducks, who are all very good layers (1 egg a day, every day from the ladies) and very amusing to watch. They live with our chickens. Ducks WILL ruin the ground you put them on - they alternately stomp it down and churn it up, plus get it very muddy! Min...

Re: Cheer me up Ish!!

On the topic of 'nice ferny leaves'.... I was about 18 or so, and was coming home from a Friday night out. I was rather drunk, and at the stage where you think that you are still mostly sober. I knew my mum had been out to the local social club, with my 30-odd year old cousin who was living with us....

Re: We've finished the polytunnel!

Have you concreted it in or used some of those fancy ground anchors to stop it blowing away? We've got the anchor plates for it... which was a b!tch of a job! 14 holes, 40cm deep and 40cm square.... and then you put the plates and tubes in, and just fill them in again! Cos we're so windy generally,...

Re: We've finished the polytunnel!

You did a great job! The base rails will make life a lot easier when it comes to replacing the cover..no digging  If there`s any slope to the rails you could fit guttering and bury a couple of water butts to collect the water  Thanks!! The base rails are there for that exact reason (...

We've finished the polytunnel!

OK, so OH 'made' most of it, as I'm a bit feeble when it comes to powertools, etc, but I did a lot of gofering, and holding and fetching and did eventually hammer some nails into the base rails!! It has taken us several weeks, due to weather, the fact we have full time jobs, missing parts etc, but w...

Re: Gardening with small smalls - how do you do it??

ds is 2 and a half and tries to help by digging up what a plant :angryfire: any tips about that would be great too  Could you give DS a patch of their own 'garden' to dig/plant/mess about in? A friend at work solved the problem by giving their son a small area of ground to make a 'building sit...
