Re: 5 star, A1, solid gold preghead...
I spent hours looking for the tv remote yesterday...hours & hours...and found it in a most unlikely spot. Our couch is made of wood, & has a bench seat which opens up (where I put all of the books which don't fit anywhere else). The remote turned up in there! What on earth I was doing in there to st...

Re: purple potatoes?
We have potatoes like that over here in NZ, they're an old Maori variety called Tutaekuri (which delightfully translates as dog poo..which I suppose is what they look like!), also known as Urenika. They're so beautiful when they're cooked, a bit more dirty tasting than a regular spud, but I quite li...

Re: Pregnant & Starving...but don't know what to eat!
Yip, is kind of bad timing that my husband's away - he's a winemaker & had already arranged to do the harvest in Italy before the baby made itself known! I'm not very much fun at the moment, so it's probably best that I'm not inflicting myself on anybody
.

Funny about the mashed potatoes too - I've just spent a couple of weeks eating them for just about every meal!!! It's winter here, and there's something so appealing about warm soft potatoes...

Re: Pregnant & Starving...but don't know what to eat!
You guys are wonderful!! Makes me feel far less crazy  . Cheese & tomato toasted sandwiches seem to be working for me today, & when I was at the greengrocer before I felt compelled to buy a pineapple, which I've gobbled up big hunks of, and made a sweet & sour sauce with the rest - I think tha...

Pregnant & Starving...but don't know what to eat!
Help! I'm pregnant and have gone off all of the food I usually love. The food's not making me feel sick, but I just don't want it and am completely baffled about what to cook for my dinner! My husband is away for work for a couple of months, so it's just me and the cats for a while. Any wonderful he...

MrsD'ville mkII -I use b.soda to wash my hair, but I dissolve a teaspoon or so in a mug of warm water, pour it over my head & kind of lather it up - it washes out way easier than putting it as a paste on your head  . And to make your hair all lovely & silky, put a teaspoon of apple cider vineg...

Re: Making soap/toiletries
I haven't ventured into soap making, but I do make my own cleansing/moisturising cream from beeswax (from a guy down the road) olive oil (from the biodynamic vineyard my husband works at) and rosewater - really really easy & doesn't make much mess. I get a bowl & sit it over a pan of simmering water...

Re: 101 professions for a self-sufficientish, thinking person
I used to be a primary school teacher until earlier this year - it burned me out completely!! Went on stress leave, and whilst finding my balance again I decided to start my own music teaching studio and it's the best thing I ever did! Was terrifying to walk away from a government salary & go out on...
