Re: Work, Uni and starting over again

When I was 16 I decided I wanted to be a lawyer. I did my A levels and went off to university to study law. I found it very dull, and the prospect of being able to help people/do something useful didn't really carry through. A lot of what was needed was corporate stuff (which I hated), and tedium on...

Wow! What a difference! That looks really brilliant - you should be very proud of yourselves.

Big pat on the back for making it look so lovely.

Re: It may be a bit premature...

Oohhhh! How exciting! I'd offer to help, but I know nowt about looms - other than the fact that I'd love to use one...

Best of luck with it. And show us what you make!

Re: Not so innocent any more

Yes, I got one of those too. And it didn't make me feel any more kindly towards 'Innocent' than I did before. If anything, it has confirmed my opinion that this is one of the most cynically manipulative companies out there.

Boo.

Re: Not so innocent any more

Well I've had a few days to think about this now. The Innocent smoothie in my fridge (1 large carton) will be the last thing that I buy from them. I've decided that the Coke deal is a completely cynical move, with only profits in mind. And what's worse, I am really miffed that I swallowed the whole ...

Re: Some very pretty chard - but what to do with it?

This is my favourite recipe for chard or kale. It transforms them from slightly worthy piles of greenery into absolutely delicious food that you could eat and eat. It's taken from a Jane Sen book 'More Healing Foods' and is just great: Heat a wok. Put 1 tblsp of fennel seeds into it, and stir them a...

Re: Not so innocent any more

Dreadful news. I'm really not happy about it. I'm not an impetuous horse, but I shall be thinking very carefully about whether I want to buy their smoothies anymore. I don't buy any Coca Cola products at the moment. I'm not very happy at the prospect of that changing. :(

Re: Rhubarb and date chutney

Ooh, lots of interest then! Here's the recipe. It's an adapted version of one that I found on the BBC good food site: 500g red onions, finely chopped 750g rhubard, chopped into 1" chunks 500g apples, finely chopped 400g brown sugar 200g sultanas 200g dates, chopped 50g root ginger, peeled and grated...

Rhubarb and date chutney

I've just made 6lbs of lovely lovely chutney, which is now potted up and cooling in the kitchen. It's the first time I've tried making a rhubarb chutney, so am going to have great difficulty keeping my hooves off it for a month!

Yummm....

Re: "We love what you're doing here"

Moonwaves - you're absolutely right. The defensive and pre-emptive remarks are very quick to appear. I make no secret of my preferences (eg veggie, 95% dairy free, organic, local etc etc), but I don't ask people about what they're doing or try to make them do more. But people do seem to have this gu...

Re: "We love what you're doing here"

Compared to many of the people on here, we really don't do that much by way of being ish (though we have plans to change that!). But even the small amount we do causes comment and some degree of amusement from our friends. We don't have a TV We are vegetarian and largely dairy-free (an occasional bi...

Re: Recipe for birch sap wine please

Ooh. I made this years ago - it worked very well, though I do remember getting very strange looks as I wandered through a little wood with an empty demijohn and a drill... But I don't have the recipe any more. I know it was dead easy, and very nice, but that's little help to you. I'll see if I can f...

Re: A rival to Mrs Flibble???

I really enjoy knitting too - I've been knitting since I was 6 years old, which makes it all the more odd that it's taken me this long to get round to crochet. I'm trying very hard not to think about all that lovely wool until I get paid this month. Must stay away from the wool shop... Must stay awa...

A rival to Mrs Flibble???

Well no, actually. But I *have* just learned to crochet! I went to a class for a couple of hours last Friday morning, where I learned how to crochet a granny square. I've been wanting to learn for ages and am so pleased that I've made a start. All I need to do now is practice, practice, pra...
