Re: Getting on a bit.

Maybe we don't remember enough the things that don't change - like having a really good laugh, whether its at a live show, on a record or on You Tube. One of my great joys has been sharing some really great comedy with my teenage son - Bob Newhardt's driving instructor sketch, for example, has us bo...

Re: Fight obesity like tobacco

I am absolutely horrified at the suggestion that parents be blamed, punished or have their kids taken away for being fat. I was born a normal weight. By the time I was 18 months old, I was fat. At 5, I went on my first diet. So clearly I was brought up by stupid or uncaring parents, right? Wrong. My...

Re: 39 steps to a better life

We could probably all identify a specific skill-set relevant to our lives and circumstances. Mine would have to include keeping your feet on a crowded london bus and keeping your patience on the underground!

Re: Beware! Laundry in Progress

Interesting thread. When the weather is bad I dry my stuff indoors on two racks, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen, reckoning that those rooms get steamy/moist anyway! And my mum taught me to open the windows every day, so I do, even when very cold - I do it just after we get up, just for h...

Re: My craft stall

Your stall looked lovely, as did your items for sale. I do pop-up shops and the odd craft stall too, and rarely make much, but I try to look on it as an investment in that I give out lots of cards and flyers about where I'll be selling next. I am still in the process of setting up a web shop, but I ...

Re: What do you love most about being a bit self sufficient?

I like the feeling that I can make do and mend a bit - that a button off, a broken zip or a rip in a garment doesn't have to be a disaster. And that I can make my own clothes from found fabrics or remnants from the market. And I like the fact that I am nit always wanting the latest things - clothes,...

We are all jealous of Durgan's tomatoes - dismal season here.

Re: How are your tomatoes this year?

I have had a couple of handfulls of cherry tomatoes, but again, loads still green and not enough sun to ripen them off. With the wet weather they seemedto have a severe check to growth and developed too late. Green tomato chutney anyone?

Re: Making a virtue out of a necessity..?

I hope you settle happily in your new home - its bound to take a bit of getting used to, though the proximity of a good pub may help! I live in London, but grew up in Gloucestershire, for part of the time in an isolated village with no shop, pub, buses etc. I do miss the quiet but I also enjoy being...

Re: How old are you and how should you feel ???

Very interesting and inspiring thread. I turned 50 recently and have been thinking quite a bit about the next phase of my life. In terms of tiredness, I do think that, for me, attitude plays a big part in how much I can do. I do tend to waste a lot of energy and time getting in a flap about all the ...

Re: Men and Money!!!

Not sure about the splitting 50/50 thing - I had a long career break when we had our son, and then worked part-time for a long time while he was growing up, so my earning potential was compromised. Also, even when we both worked full-time, I did more housework, cooking and gardening!
