Re: For those of you with children in school...

I am a firm believer in allowing children to get 'deschooled' during holidays, so i wouldn't feel guilty if i were you. Sounds as though your kids have been busy developing their social skills and exercising, and generally having a good time! Lucky them.

Welcome! And in my opinion, if you can bring up kids you are invincible and can achieve anything!

Re: (Very) Down in the Dumps

I've not exactly taken comfort from all your bad experiences, but I do feel a bit better knowing its not just me that's having a bad year - tomatoes hanging on so far, but everything else eaten by slugs and snails or rotted, and the weeds running riot. I only have little plastic greenhouses, but some...

Re: Olympic News

I was in Stratford today meeting a friend and it just doesn't feel like Stratford at all! The shopping centre was full of news teams and cameras and every other passer by has some sort of official pass or uniform - very wierd! Noticed that the Swiss team have an apple with an arrow through it on the...

Re: Bloody dog!!

Oh no - and to think I have been complaining about snails and slugs on my veggies, that's nothing compared with an excited St Bernard! Hopefully your husband will have calmed down a bit by the time he comes home - especially as you have tidied everything up so quickly.

Re: Little things that really annoy you!

Infuriating, I agree. I just put the phone down as soon as they start - I'm not going to let them steal any more of my time. My husband takes a very robust line, so if they say 'I'm not trying to sell you anything', he syas,'don't be ridiculous, yes you are'! But I do feel sorry for people who do th...

Re: What have you found lately?

A cat - or rather he found us. Better than a mousetrap - the other thing we found was half a mouse under the chair in the living room.

That looks so good,he's done a great job. You would pay a fortune for something like that in a shop (does he have any more floorboards - could be a lucrative sideline!!).

Re: sewing excitement

I do wish that sewing lessons at school had been a bit more inspiring. I had a few bruising experiences which put me off completely (like having to make a school dress with a pattern which did not go up to my size - and rather than learn how to alter the pattern I had to just make the garment that I...

Re: Anybody in the UK Gardening?

Gardening feels like a bit of a struggle this year - battling slugs and snails around my herbs and salads, and foxes who keep digging up my carrots and beans. Have already lost all my coriander and half the parsley.

Re: going no-poo

Read somewhere that you can put a few drops of vanilla extract into the final rinse to give a nice smell. But I just cannot seem to get on with bicarb, much as I would like to - maybe my pathetic shower is not strong enought to wash it out properly? Just try to use as little shampoo as possible.

Wecome and hope you like it here and learn a lot. I've found people to be very generous with sharing their knowledge and skills.
Incidentally, I love your name - do you know the novel Possession, full of faux-Victorian poems about the fairy Melusine?
