Re: 101 ways to earn a little extra cash

16. If you can cook, offer to cook things for people - when my partner was out of work, I made cakes and took soups into work (just thought, if you are doing this for more than friends you might need to be inspected - best to keep it informal).

Re: My Cakes

I agree with green aura, they don't need to be perfect - these are beautifully decorated but still look handmade rather than machine-made clones. Very impressed - my cake decorating skills take two directions - either I put smarties on the top, or chocolate buttons! And that's it!

Re: What can you see from your window?

From my back window - my coriander pot knocked over and smashed by the foxes.
From my front window - the local yoof hanging about in the rain.
Hate this thread, feeling really miserable and jealous now...

Re: How do i stop moths eating our carpet?

A bit of cedar wood in your cupboards also help - you can buy quite expensive cedar balls and shaped hanging things, but any old bit of cedar wood will do. Sandpaper it occasionally to renew the smell.

Re: One swallow doesn't make a summer

My parents in Gloucestershire got their regular swallows back last week - they nest in the garage, so dad can't shut the garage door now, and has to cover the car to protect it from poo!! But they love to have them, and especially enjoy seeing the young birds. Haven't seen any in East London yet.

Slowly thawing snow here in East London - very useful for locating our black cat in the dark! It is his first snow and he absolutely loves it!

Re: It's nice to be nice

Sometimes i think we get so negative that we don't notice that most people are fine. And its easy to believe cliches if enough people repeat them. I live in London and have always heard people say 'people don't talk to each other in London' but that just hasn't been my experience. And when i was pre...

Re: Sprouting seeds and pulses

Quick tip - don't put more than a thin layer of seeds at the bottom of the jar as they can increase in volume alarmingly as they sprout, and may well take over your kitchen if you put too many in! I speak from experience here!

Re: But what do you really want out of "ish"

I really like this question. It seems that what we are all trying to do is to find a way to live that feels right for each of us, a way to live with integrity and some sense of inner peace. I have to confess that anger and fear are part of my reason for wanting a bit of ish. I am angry about how the...

Re: Breast feeding, socially unacceptable or not?

There's an interesting point underlying this whole question - the right of people not to be offended/embarrassed. Do we really have that right? Aren't feelings of embarrassment etc more a product of us than of the situation, should we not take responsibility for our feelings rather than seeing them ...

Re: I'm back again...toddler sleeping problem - any ideas?

Sounds so similar to my son - bright, clingy, active... Sympathise with not getting much help from the health visitor, I cried when my lovely one moved on. I do feel for you, I remember dreading bedtimes. This is not much of a solution, but we did persist with the 'lie him down, leave for a few minut...

Re: First life of 2012 - What are you sowing?

Hi Sarah, Also had a discouraging season in London last year - encouraged by your enthusiasm this year. Would like to plant some lettuce if only I could find the darned seeds.... Also, this year we are not going away in August - its a disaster for the garden, and even with kind neighbours coming to ...
