Re: work from home without my head exploding?

Have been 'about to open' my Folksy shop for heaven knows how long - hence the note to self about not fannying about any longer! Thanks for your interest Sue - there are a few bits on www.starjumparts.com which is my blogsite (much in need of updating. Thanks for the gentle reminder!

Re: Good Morning, World!

I was shocked, though, to hear that some health authority will not now be offering routine surgery to people unless they lose weight. I have been fat all my life and have struggled with it and been very very unhappy. If I could have lost weight, believe me, I would. I am not lazy or stupid and I do ...

Re: work from home without my head exploding?

Just revisited this thread as I have already made mistakes this year in being overambitious with what I could hope to achieve over Christmas - clearly, I needed to read it all again! Thanks so much for those who shared their experience since my last post. I think Dr Syn's 8th point about the hardest...

Re: Sugar

I have a friend with eating problems, has a sort of addictive reaction to foods with a lot of refined sugar in them in that once started she cannot stop eating them. I should stress that this is not just a 'lack of willpower' and that she is in every way a sane and sensible and intelligent person. A...

Re: how do I become self sufficient...

We like soup - also very easy, cheap and you can make it with whatever you like. I've made it all my son's life as he used to be very difficult about eating veg and I used to hide all sorts of things whatever soup I was making! Just the thing to go with your bread1 Again, try library for recipes. St...

Re: how do I become self sufficient...

I would agree with Zech, start small. I suppose I might begin by asking why I want to be self-sufficientish, as that might give me a clue where to start. So if I am worried about the kind of rubbish that goes in to food and what my toddler might be eating, then as Zech suggests I might start in the ...

Sounds like you might need a hug more than a kick! What a rotten few weeks. Good for you for shaking yourself up and getting on with things, hopefully it will help you all feel better.

Re: survive on a very tight budget

Yep, I'd agree - I found that when my partner was made redundant, once people knew I was looking for extra income I picked up all sorts of extra little jobs here and there, and a few pounds a week would make a big difference to your food budget. I am also a great believer in soup and bread as a warm...

Reading all this really makes me want an open fire - curling up in front of a radiator is not quite the same.

Re: How "green"is your xmas tree?

My thrifty and creative mum used often to dress a twiggy branch from the garden, and I did the same until we got our growing tree a few years ago. And I remember being very shocked when a friend told me about the colour scheme for her tree last year - it involved buying a completely new set of decor...

Glad I'm not the only one - I have cup-shaped handles on my kitchen drwers, and when I put my fingers under to pull out the drawer the other day there was a snail hiding there! Probably came through the catflap!

Re: someone is trying to steal my cat!

Just spent a tearful day searching for our cat who seems to have disappeared completely - hope he has just gone roaming, as some of yours seem to do, but afraid he might have been spooked by fireworks which started up suddenly yesterday teatime. BTW, anyone read the kid's book 'Six Dinner Sid'? Its ...
