That's how I see it, Andy. I believe that all of God's creation is a great gift to us, and it would be very ungrateful to abuse and damage a gift someone gave to you. I think we should treat the world with gratitude and care, and hand it over to our children in no worse a state than we found it.

I'd like to see building developments that put people first, not cars. One thing I used to hate about our T***o (when I used to shop at T***o) was the car park that had no designated spaces for pedestrians at all. So to get your shopping back to your car you had to dodge all the traffic, which could...

You're right, that is crazy. Also gross. My 4-year-old Sam thought it was "too scary", but then he said "I didn't see the beginning - play it again!"

What's mean and nasty about it? When our hens stop laying we're going to eat them.

Wow, apricots in Co. Durham. I don't know whether that's impressive or a scary sign of galloping greenhouse effect.

Like mmm I'm unsure about mulching. Anytime I've looked underneath any kind of mulch like big leaves or plastic sheeting it's been full of slugs and snails. They love it dark and moist. And she has a point about it not letting rainwater through. If watering is such a major chore there are other ways...

Hedgewitch, have you ever fancied keeping your own bees? You'd get honey and beeswax and they'd pollinate your beans and other crops. I'd love to keep bees. I think they're next on my list of things to try, but my kids are scared of them.

Hi Cheyenne. Sorry to hear about your hens, that must have been upsetting. As for too much nitrogen in your soil - how about growing nitrogen-loving plants. I haven't looked it up but as I recollect that's green leafy brassicas, and especially lettuce will suck the nitrogen out of the soil. Check ou...

Well it hasn't rained in Berks since a month ago so I'm guessing the butt is still empty. Unless Muddypause has diverted his greywater pipe from the bathroom, in which case have a gold star and go to the top of the class.

I find it a tough decision - is it better to drive a clapped out old banger until all the bits fall off, or is it better to scrap it and get a shiney new car with a hybrid engine and a catalytic converter and a gazillion miles to the gallon?

You can use all kinds of things as moulds if you don't mind them not being conventionally lolly-shaped. Plastic cups and yogurt pots make great big lollies, and little fromage frais pots make dainty little lollies. Anything deep-ish like that will work. You just stick your lolly stick straight in - ...

You don't need a diagram or instructions for a bamboo wigwam. What you mainly need is to see one and think "Ah, ok I get it now". I'd think the berks who set the fire should have to pay for the fire brigade call-out, as well as compensating all the people who suffered damage to crops etc.
