Re: polytunnel advice ?

No, you don't need it at all in summer - although here everyone does still use them for planting late tomatoes etc. Whilst it's very hot here, we had our first frost in mid October this year; it's well worth making use of it to prolong the season. It doesn't need to get that hot inside. I found that...

Re: Ginger

Sorry to resurrect and old thread ;) Ginger certainly is possible to grow decent quantities of in the UK - I've seen it at this place , in person during a visit so it's no hoax! Whilst this form of growing isn't everyone's cup of tea, it does produce some startling results. It doesn't need all that ...

Re: polytunnel advice ?

I appreciate this thread is a little old, but there's some great advice already here and since so many people these days desire a polytunnel, it makes sense to continue adding thoughts to it ;) I'd go along with the theory of it paying for itself although you can obviously save cash along the way by...

Re: Walnut tree

We've got a couple of boxes of them - which are more than enough for us & wonderful they are. They're pretty good in the bird feeders too. The large orchard? below the house here doesn't really get harvested. Anyone who is passing simply helps themselves. We often see groups of kids collecting - but...

Re: Top 10 Things for my New Allotment.

I think you're probably right with the grass paths & they'll look good too. ATEOTD, the cuttings, if you collect them, also go straight into compost - win/win ;)

Re: Walnut tree

We've approximately 200 walnut trees on the land around the house - they're big business here. However, one tree stands alone quite close to the house and (in my opinion) it had become too big to the point of being dangerous (top heavy). So, to the horror of most of the locals, it got a damn heavy p...
