Re: Vaccination v homeopathy

it is an important decision to make as a parent. Unfortunately, all the info you find is "vaccinate or your child might die" type thing. Rarely "10 years on, only 25% are still protected". And I'm not even talking about the controversies following each new vaccine. true or false? who knows, it's alw...

Re: Waste Free Lunch Inspiration

Bento lunchboxes are fab! No need to go to extremes with the decoration (unless you have hours to prepare lunch boxes... no?) it's great to open a box full of colours, textures, etc.

Re: For those of you with children in school...

Some years ago we did buy them the holiday work books that are soooo popular in France, but we stopped doing that. I remember those very well... sitting at the table in the garden with my sisters and my grandma marking the work! from a teacher's point of view, you know in September the kids who've ...

Re: weed? ID help

I thought I'd seen the leaves of lady's mantle before, from open garden days in the area, so It's allowed to stay (I take note of the self seeding habit oldjerry, thanks). I'll let you know what happens to the mystery shoots! Becks77, I've got loads of unidentified plants so you might get inundated ...

Re: Make your own sourdough

I tried it a few years ago, was keeping the starter in the fridge but the loaves always turned out very sour (not pleasant at all). I noticed your starter stays out for feeds/baking Maggie, maybe that's where I wasgoing wrong...
I might give it another go too. How do all keep your starter?

Re: weed? ID help

thanks all, I was worried you were going to say it was something super evil like Japanese Knotweed...
I'm going to let a few live to see what happens.
There are plants growing on the other side of the road that look like the one you posted Davie Crockett, so I'll have a look.

Re: weed? ID help

it's a strongish shoot, like asparagus.I pulled out a few growing in random places and they seem connected underground.
the bed is waterlogged and covered in moss or weeds or overgrown uggly forsythia and rhododendron. yuk.
Ultimately I'd like all of it to go and put a greenhouse there... one day!

First "spring" in the garden and I'm slowly learning to ID what's sprouting everywhere!

Re: Changing pH for Blueberry Bushes

thanks for the details.
very conveniently, there are a few very ugly 1m high conifers things in the garden that I'm killing one by one (I guess the previous owners thought they were topiary masters...)
I'm going to shred the branches and will use it next winter.
