Re: .....Figure out how much to grow?

i dont think it can be accurate as you have some fails and some gluts etc - as already said we are guilty of always trying to do more.. Always more, and we have had to learn to cut back or it gets silly - as it is we have 6 freezers (though we do raise our own chickens, pork, duck and mutton) and fa...

Re: Pinterest

I'd say its not like facebook - which i am still resisting. it can be used as a social wossit, or it can be used as a place to build up images or ideas etc. I've seen folk who are writing a book use it for research and others for mood boards to build up a wishlist for their home etc. use if as you l...

Re: Cookbook ebooks low sales for a reason?

I do hope that this is not the end of paper books, it won't be quite the same for future generations to inherit an ebook device full of Granny's recipes, or a computer file. I like my old recipe books that someone's written in the margins! true - we inherited a copy of Mrs Beeton's househole manage...

Re: Cookbook ebooks low sales for a reason?

I have a netbook i use at the kitchen table, so more and more i ...

Re: Make soap from Pig Fat

we made soap using the fat from our pigs - the best fat was the pure lard found near the kidneys. We rendered it several times to get it really clean - then used a calculator to work out the lye. oh and some essential oil to make it smell nice. We use the hot process method. nice creamy soap, and al...

Re: Pure breed or cross sheep

inbreeding causes problems - and to keep pure breeds, often there is inbreeding, but not necessarily so. the chicken question is a red herring (sorry to bring fish into this too! )but hybrids are very much bred, so have their problems, equally there can be problems with traditional breeds of c...

Re: Yule - how did/are you spending it?

Being pagan is great .. you dont have to follow any instruction on your path. It nature based, connecting with our mother earth and father sky .. seeing properly the world we walk on and try to connect to ... this is me - and thus i spose it makes me a pagan - but I don't generally call myself that...

Re: The price of your Xmas lunch has gone up

raising our own turkey certainly is an economy - we can't compete with the mass produced sad turkeys, but compared to free range local, ours cost us about half the price to raise

Re: How do i stop moths eating our carpet?

use the scent you can live with all of these things are just to disguise the smell of yummy wool that the wool moths are attracted to. Also - they like dark damp places - so move the furniture about a tad. and vacuum the little darlings up! if you know you have a moth problem in the house - think ab...
