Re: How can I be?

I discovered that a lot of the self help books are written by therapists, psychiatrists and other people who have studied the subject, but not actually been there and truly understand what it is like to live with depression or mental health problems. Some of the books get close to the bones of it, w...

Re: I went out faraging, apparently I am not normal

we were foraging nuts when like you a lady and her child passed by and the child asked "mummy, what are they doing?" "they are collecting nuts" she said. "But mummy, why are they doing that?" "Oh, it's what poor people do...." Hmmm, yet another misseducated child released into the world...........

Re: How can I be?

I suffered the curse of perfectionism too. Nothing was good enough, nothing was ever finished. I was never happy with anything, there was always something I could have done to make it better. I always put myself down, no confidence in my abilities. I addressed my problems head on with lots of therap...

Re: a good days work....

Erm, in a nutshell.. no. I was expecting a currier at 08:00 this morning and couldnt go out the back as I wouldn't have heard the doorbell (cordless one on the blink). They finally came 10 minutes ago during dinner. Looks like I'll be having a busy day tomorrow!

Re: How can I be?

I'm sorry, but I'm going to get philosophhical on that one... It's interesting that you us ask how to be happy and contented (this is the therapist in me speaking), when I must ask you to turn that around and ask yourself "what makes ME happy?" I'm quite sure you probably already know the answer to ...

Re: Eco home audit

The Aloe Vera sounds like a good idea, I never thought about remedies and potions as part of our self sufficiency. Looks like we'll be adding a medicinal section to the herb garden!

Does anyone know of any other wonder plants to add too?

Midnight Farm Recycling Project. -A house for free?

It's time to spread the word! Recycling can be fun and often neccessitates being creative too. So what could you do with that empty bottle, old bath tub, food tin etc? Most local councils here in the UK have facilities for recycling plastics, glass, metals etc. But what about the things that get ove...

Reed Beds

We were thinking of having a reed bed filtration system to manage our waste water. We know that it is the rhizomes on the roots that do the deed as it were, but would we have to stop using detergents and other cleaning products in order to not kill them off? Come to think of it, how big would it nee...

Re: Hello!

Hi, we are currently living a split location existence in Nottingham and Leicester. Gathering much information already!
I particularly like the gardening side of selfsufficiency, and my other half describes himself as a compulsive recycler.

Re: survive on a very tight budget

one of my favourite meals at this time of year that can be quite cheap is a vegetable stew (cooked on the hob) with dumplings - just cook whatever veg you have at the bottom of the fridge, in some stock, add a bit of tomato puree if you like, add dumplings, simmer for 20 minutes! Eat from a bowl tuc...

Re: Eco home audit

yes to the lego all over the floor (i have two of those under 12 boy type items!)- hence the carpet sweeper instead so much easier to remove them from there!
Got the bicarb, lemon juice, vinegar and tea tree oil.

Eco home audit

I'm thinking of doing an audit of my home to see the areas i can still improve on for both energy efficiency and impact on the planet in other ways, anyone got any clues as to the things to look out for?
Thinking cleaning stuff, bathroom cabinet, garden shed.....
