Re: Plum Wine

I had just short of 4lb of fruit after i had removed the stones. I added pectolase. I added 500g of cooked pearl barley the day after i mashed the fruit. Not sure what effect this will have if any. I am new to all this! I did find a cherry-plum tree yesterday while out for a walk, as well as a coupl...

Re: starting our own ish life

How far away this land is to your current home? Is it possible to start growing and getting a feel for things before you do something drastic and find it it isn't going to work? I would love to say go for it but be careful!

Re: Fermentation stopped

Hi, I am new to wine making but have had some early success with fruit teabag infusions and supermarket apple juice. Is there no where cooler in your flat, wardrobe or shaded corner? How much acid/lemon juice did you use as this as important as yeast & nutrient. So try finding somewhere cooler if po...

Re: Elderberry Port Recipe & Pictures

So you might say I have been bitten by the wine making bug! Anyhow i would like to make this out of season so i have a few questions if anyone can help me? I have seen "ready in 3 weeks" elderberry wine kits in a local shop. Could i use the elderberry concentrate from these kits with a bag of frozen...

Re: Wine Yeast for Beer?

So I made malted nettle beer on Monday night, it went mad and frothed everywhere for a couple of days and then slowed right down to bubbling a few minutes apart. I cleaned the bottle and the airlock. I also added a tablespoon of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of both yeast and nutrient to try and k...

Re: Wine Yeast for Beer?

Thanks Mike! I had a look last night and the yeast I bought is labelled as wine makers and brewers yeast so I will be using it in everything i brew until its gone and my brews become more sophisticated! I was under the impression that fermentation was left until it was finished and if you wanted a f...

Re: Wine Yeast for Beer?

Thanks for the help Mike. A few more questions if you don't mind? This is my new hobby after all and I have no experience, yet anyway! What's the difference between nettle wine and nettle beer? What strength nettle beer/mead would I be looking at after a week? As anything 5-7% would be ideal. The me...

Wine Yeast for Beer?

I have recently started a batch of apple wine from supermarket juice and a separate batch with mixed fruit tea bags. However even though these are still bubbling away I found a couple of recipes I would like to try next. One being nettle and ginger beer and the other been dandelion mead. Now my ques...
