yep broccoli is from the brassica family. Does not seem that popular though at the moment I am afraid Oscar, but not many votes have been cast so I guess it is anyones race still.

Love my allotment too.
would not use the words 'rip off' it is a homage to the good life, that people can eaisily identify with.
I get some stick for having an allotment too, but when it comes to harvest time and you have cupboards full of organic vegetables it makes it all worth while.

pumkins and such
That does seem to be the case in the UK, Pumkins are not originally from here so I guess we (as a nation) don't know what to do with them. I think we have more (old) recipes for turnip as this was what we orginally used as Jak-o-lanterns. I believe that it originated in Scotland then the americans s...

Livestock
Just put a forum topic up for you mate. However, if you mean on the main site a few things about livestock, neither myself nor dave keep livestock. (at the moment) However, there is a thing about chickens that was kindly written for us by mike, and an organic welsh hill farmer will (hopefully) be wr...

Visit this and sign the petition http://iw.rtm.com/ed/undoit_petition_1.asp?sitecode=uredirect Not sure if these petitions make that much difference, but it cannot hurt. What will definetly make a difference is if everyone took stock of how they live their lives and changed it. Check out which compa...

moving allotments
Me and Dave were talking about this the other day, we both agreed that having an allotment ties you to a town or city. I have not had mine for anything like as long as the old fella you speak of must have, but I am still very attached to it. I feel for him, must be terrible to see something that you...

Hello Oscar Have changed it so it now says "knock yourself out (general section)". I think that you might not be the only one not to understand my turn of phrase. In fact there was a bit of discussion about my use of the English language on this http://www.backwoodshome.com/forum/yabb/forum.pl?board...

The Good Life(or as it was called in the US good neighbours)
I thinking about the classic comedy the good life (I believe it was called the good neighbours in USA). I thought it would be good to get enough people together to pester the BBC and see if a new series could be made. Then I thought, it might be rubbish, along the same lines as Are you being served ...

free cycle
I thought that it would be good to do the same on here. I think what freecycle seems to rely upon is that things are available for collection. I think this will depend on what you want to get rid of. Small things could be posted. What do you reckon, could we do the same on here, or should we leave i...
