Worms

Or rather, lack of them  We've just started digging up underneath our black plastic. This has been down on the ground for just over a year. When we started digging, there doesn't seem to be any worms in the soil. There was a red ants nest though. Is this a bad thing? Is there any way to get the...

I work in retail, and try to discourage people from having bags with their purchases. It seems sometimes that people feel they haven't been shopping unless they have bags and bags hanging off their arms though!! In my staffroom, we have a plastic bag container, so when members of staff go shopping,,...

Just picked this up....

Went to my local bootsale this morning and picked up this book. "The Big Book of Gardening" by Charles Boff. It looks like its about 40 or so years old. It quotes as being a comprehensive guide for the home gardener, giving all necessary advice on the culture of flowers, vegetables & fruit. Having a...

Got given some more tomato plants, so they went in today. Also given some cucumbers.
Never tried those before, so should be interesting. Bought some sprouts, but got to try and find some space.
Might have to try and finally dig under the black plastic!

Going down to the allotment to pull out even more weeds.
Hopefully plant out my sweetcorn, tomato plants, and squash plants if i have time after all the weeding :(
Got the weekend off work, and the weather is nice, so might get plenty done. (fingers crossed)

Finished roofing the shed (o/h did!).
Planted a couple of courgette plants, sown another row of lettuce & broad beans.
Potted up some butternut squash plants as well.
I thought we had a good day.

Spent most of the afternoon pulling out all (?) the weeds that have decided
to pop up since we had the deluge of rain.
Back down there later on today to carry on the good work.
Might even plant some more spuds.

Hi, Thanks for the replies.
I'll have a thorough look at my beans when i go down to the allotment today,
and investigate the ants. Probably take some jam with me as well.

Will let you know how it goes.
